I was there for about 30 hours, but at one point the contractions became very regular and were 4 minutes apart, so I went to the hospital to be checked. I had not dilated though, so they gave me a shot to help me sleep and sent me home. I would highly recommend the shot, but it sounds like you are going drug-free if you have a midwife. The next morning, I dilated to 4 cm and was admitted. Hang in there, the baby will be here soon. Try hard not to focus on the contractions and rest as much as possible! Good luck, I am sure you will do a wonderful job.

Every labor is different, and each takes it's own time. Sometimes there are irregular contractions for a few days before they become consist ant, especially with first babies. Sometimes walking around a little helps, and relaxing with herbal teas. Try to be calm , do some deep breathing , have your main squeeze rub some lotion on your back and tummy. Have a warm bath ONLY if your midwife is present and says it's okay.

She'll keep an eye on your dilating, and let you know how things are progressing.

I was in labor a total of 28 hours. What I did was walk A LOT! As soon as I started getting my contractions, I walked for a while. Then I went to see my midwife so she could swab my membrane (its kinda painful but it made me dialate faster). She then advised me to walk some more. About an hour later, my contractions not only became regular, but they were coming every 5 minutes. I then went back to my doctor's office and was 5 dialated and checked into the hospital. About 3 hours later, I was fully dialated and ready to push. Just try to be active, not only does it help induce active labor but it also kinda gets your mind off the pain of the contractions.

Thats a hard one, everyone labors differently. I was overdue by one week, went in for a check up, was 4 cm dilated and delivered 4 hours after that with the help of Pitocin. I was induced b/c of being overdue and since i was already dilating but not contracting they wanted to get things started. After being put on pitocin it was only about 20 mins til i started contracting regularly.

My last pg I started having irregular contractions on the Friday morning but didn't realise that's what they were at the time. I just went about as normal and ignored them as I thought it was just pressure on my bladder from the weight of the baby as I knew he'd dropped a bit. My first labour was induced so I had no frame of reference.

The contractions were quite painful at times but I just walked about or changed my sitting position and that helped. It honestly just felt like a stabby senation in my pelvic area

By 9.00 pm on the following Monday they changed into a more regular pattern and became much more painful. I went into hospital at 10.00pm and he was born at 11.20pm.

That's about 3 and a half days so quite a long time. I think it was much less stressful because I didn't know I was in labour so didn't think about it too much. I didn't have a bloody show or that may have alerted me.

Best thing to do is keep as mobile as you can as this helps to bring the baby down and dilate your cervix.

    Good luck!! x

My health center made me wait till my contractions have been each two-three minutes and intended to have a minimum of three in 10 minutes. I used to be seeking to wait till my waters broke however could not manage the suffering any longer so went in and used to be four cms dilated. I used to be in labour for sixteen hours earlier than i went to health center and my son used to be born 7 hours after i bought there. Whatever you do if the health center tells you to have a tub, do not as this may sluggish the contractions down and might take longer. (until you wish to of path) Good success. Mummy to three yr historic and five weeks preg with moment.
