do you think its time for Islam prayers to be translated into other language?

I'm a Muslim... I am not an Arab and I don't understand the prayers that we recite... I'm praying with a tongue I do not understand, I don't even know how to recite it right... I don't know if English prayers are already being used. Some says that the prohibition for the translation is to prevent the original text from being corrupted and the message from being mislead… but the problem is how I could adhere to it when I cannot understand it???

    Simple. Learn the English translation of the prayers, and match it while reciting the prayers in Arabic. It worked for me. www.islamway.com has a flash which shows the english translation of the prayers and verses. Refer to them. And inshahallah you will be able to get more out of your prayers:)

    Peace.

    No. As another user said it would be Bid'aa.

    You can read the translations and study them outside of prayer and that way you will understand what you're saying. You shouldn't be just blindly reciting things anyway. But you cannot recite the prayers in English.

    There's a BIG difference between not knowing what the individual words mean and not knowing what you are reciting in your prayers. You don't have to know Arabic to know what you're saying as there are authorized translations of the Quran that would help you understand. No one is asking you to adhere to something you don't understand; you should read/study the text and understand it so you don't feel that this is what you're doing.

    Hope this helps :)

    no no no... don't invent in islam. its bidaa

    however,you can pray in english until you learn it. Every muslim has to learn little arabic, as much as to read prayer. The arabic for prayer is not rocket science. If a child can learn, why can't you? Believe me its not hard. Most of the time,you need to recite the same lines.

    assalamu aleikum;

    to be honest , at first , i was really struck by the question for it had never occured to me that prayer language or even the Quran would be object to change.

    so the answer would be 'no'.

    i've heard that when a muslim is newly converted to Islam, he is allowed to receite the prayers in his language at first until you learn the original text in Arabic.

    you didn't mention how long you have converted to Islam, you should receit at least 'al-fatihah' which essential for every prayer, and another suraa, i think you know that, like surat 'al-falaq, annas, assamad'.

    try attending quraan sessions in mosques so you can have an idea on basics about the language and how to pronounce letters and words on the language , and by time you'll be anle to have a grip on the language.

    if you need any help, i'll be happy to.

    good luck and Salam.

    To be one with Islam requires suspension of all logic and reality. Not a single disbelief. You are perfect and, God Willing, will memorize the entirety of the Koran and not make a fool of yourself.
