my 8 month old has rash?
My 8 month old started with a fever and diarreah he had it for about 3 days. I took him to the dr yesterday and she said he had a stomach virus and that it would go away on its own. today the fever was gone but now he broke out with a rash on his face mainly on his forehead and a few spots on his belly and back area. Hes is cranky and lethargic but he is still breastfeeding. I thought it might be roseola but not too sure since the rash doesnt look bumpy and didnt start on his torso but on his face mainly on his forehead. rash looks flat and patchy. I will take him back first thing monday morning if it doesnt clear up by then. I just want to know what it could be and if anyone has had this happen to their child.

Sounds like roseola. My daughter just had it, and my nephew has it now, along with pneumonia =( . If the rash is starting, then he should be on his way to getting better. Just FYI, rashes usually start on the trunk, but not always. My little one started on her face about 36 hours ago, and it moved to her trunk earlier this afternoon. She is feeling MUCH better so hopefully your son will very soon too!

Sometimes fevers can cause rashes. Does he seem uncomfortable or does he scratch at it? If not, he should be fine. If it is still there on Monday your dr. will probably prescribe a low dosage hydrocortisone cream to put on it. My son had a rash on his stomach, we put that on it, and within two days it was completely gone. Every once and a while he just gets random rashes. I'm not sure what it is from, but I put on the cream and it goes away. Baby's skin is just very sensitive.

Lots of viruses manifest themselves in rashes. My kids have both gotten mystery rashes like this, and they seem to just go away as mysteriously as they came. There are so many viruses that cause rashes in kids, the docs can't even id the virus based on the rash! There is more info below about rashes in kids.
If he doesn't perk up by Monday, a visit to the doc would be a good idea, but I bet he will be back to himself tomorrow.

He could be teething. A lot of times babies will get rashes, diarreah, and fevers when they are trying to pop a tooth. Just something to consider. Good luck with your little guy and I hope he feels better soon. =)

Babies get all sorts of rashes with viruses and I'm sure he'll be fine. However, if he becomes floppy and/or stops responding normally, please take him straight to hospital.
