How do you encourage insensitive neighbors to lower their volume levels? I have already tried to talk to him.

I own a condo. My upstairs neighbor has the ringer on his phone at top level, plays his radio at top volume in the morning before work, runs his ancient dishwasher when I am at home, etc. (Most of us run them as we go off to work when no one will be at home.)

Update:

I am on the HOA and have seen those letters. I even received an odd one. They mean nothing to anyone and don't change anything.

Update 2:

some other annoyed neighbor did a h.s trick and put crap in a bag and left it in front of his doorstep. That is how well he is liked.

Update 3:

sistemi- You are a hoot!

Kick down his front door one day when he's particularly loud holding a fully loaded Heckler and Koch G3 assault rifle with expanding ammunition and kindly inform him that he pisses you off and needs to keep it down.

You may never hear a peep out of him again.

As told before , go to the HOA. The only other thing left to do is going to court and sue but be ready to spend the next 2 or 4 years of your life getting in and out of court (no joke, it takes that long and you can even lose after all).

Personally I wouldn't waste my time and energy on that when I can use that energy to find a better place to live with no animals as neighbors or no neighbors at all.

In our town it is against the law for someone to play really loud music. we can complain to the city cop and he will get them to tone it down. On the other hand, if you have a neighbor with continually barking dogs, the cops wont do a thing.

I dont know which is worse, barking dogs or Loud music. neither one should be allowed.

The best thing you can do is try to get along, but never threaten. Two wrongs dont make a right. Maybe someday someone with a little clout will stand up for the rights of us, the little people. One can only hope

Since you're in a condo, you should be able to take it up with the HOA and they will start by sending him a letter asking him to keep it down.

You can get a door guard with movement sensors. When the sensor is triggered by any movement within a certain radius it barks like a vicious doberman. As soon as the nasty neighbour makes a step inside in his / her unit, the dog barking starts. That might make them to be a bit quieter.

Training your dog will be a huge part of your interaction with him for the first few months. Learn here https://tr.im/kZnns

This includes housetraining, leash training, obedience training, socialization, and problem solving. In addition to providing your dog with needed skills, this time will also be a great opportunity for you to bond with him. Take the time to really get to know your pet while training him and a loving relationship will easily develop.
