    Unfortunatey this is a rather difficult/pricey repair. The sending unit in your fuel tank is failing....showing full all the time with the low fuel light on makes this a 100% certainty. This is fairly common on mid 90's Ford products, we've seen more than a handful of Thunderbirds/Cougars that had the same problem.

    The repair is rather labor intensive. The fuel tank has to be dropped out of the vehicle to access the sending unit. Once it's dropped replacing the unit is relatively simple. If you take it in for service expect to pay $300 - $400 for parts and labor.

    If you're mechanically apt at all you can do it yourself...it's not impossible for a home mechanic to do. You'd need a decent floor jack, a decent set of sockets (with extensions) and a solid afternoon to get the work done.

    Run the tank as dry as possible before attemping to remove it, this will save you a bundle of time and frustration. With the tank removed you'll see the pump/sending unit fixture located on the top. It can be removed and the sending unit can be replaced. A new SU is going to run you around $38 - $80 depending on whether you purchase aftermarket or OEM. It's not a repair for the faint hearted, if you're not certain you can do it then don't...you'll end up with a broken down car in your driveway!

    Regardless it's not a priority repair....as in nothing is being damaged, it's an annoyance and make it difficult to judge mileage. Whatever option you choose make sure the fuel-pickup filter/screen is cleaned and the tank rinsed prior to re-installing....it's not often that you get the opportunity to do this, it needs to be done while the sending unit is replaced!

    When the repair is complete a new fuel filter should also be installed to ensure any leftover debris in the lines, etc are caught before hitting the enging or blocking fuel flow.

    Hope this helps!

    It's the sending unit in the fuel tank. The tank has to be dropped out and a new fuel pump with sending unit will need to be replaced. Figure 4-6 hundred parts and labor at a reputable repair facility with a warranty.

    Your fuel level sensor in your fuel tank could be contaminated with deposits from the gasoline. Try adding Chevron Techron several times in the next few months to fix it without having to remove the gas tank and replace the sending unit.

    1. – Fuel efficiency

    2. – Operation of broken fuel gauge sensors

    3. – Lost power and improve drivability

    * Clean

    1. – Sulfur corrosion from fuel gauge sensors

    2. – Combustion chambers, intake valves, and ports

    * Prevent

    1. – Engine knocks and pings, spark plug fouling and cold start issues

    2. – Harmful sulfur components from attacking sensitive electronic fuel sending units

    * Protect

    1. – Fuel gauge from malfunctioning by coating all metal surfaces of the car's fuel system.

    do you supply it adequate on the button to circulate the shifter? the button pushes a wedge which it turn pushes a rod all the way down to launch the shifter, maximum also have a lock so which you will not get it out of park till the brake pedal is pushed and held while you progression the shifter. my chum had one that the linkage have been given worn out on the wedge interior the cope with. in simple terms pay interest to what triggers it to be stiff and what works ultimate to get the shifter to circulate lower back, then you definitely can be sure the place the topic is coming from.

    The sending unit has lost it"s ground. Have fun removing the tank on one of those piece of crap cars. The drive shaft runs under the tank.
