SCA and re-enactor help needed?

I will be attending some May events and have the opportunity to sew a shirt (blouse/ chemise/ whatever) and a skirt. Through a thrift shop buy I can do each out of a light weight silk for about $1.50. In weather that is in the upper 90's (both temperature and humidity) would it be cooler to wear silk or to wear a light weight cotton?

for some silk tends to be warmer then cotton, if you do not know how your body deals with silk, go with the cotton.

Linen is probably one of the best materials to wear in high heat, and stay as far away from synthetics as you can.,.
