Either Kevin Garnett or Dwight Howard. Obviously (from last year), the definition of MVP is the best player on the best team, and no other player fits that description better than KG. Also, for other players to be put in consideration, their team has to have at least 50 wins. The Magic fell off recently, Howard can still be considered. The beast was literally destroying the league in the beginning of season, but has recently been tamed a little. Marc Stein on ESPN.com has Brandon Roy and Stephen Jackson as MVP's of the West. But so far, the league MVP is without a doubt, Kevin Garnett.

But there is somebody else, we are all forgetting (I almost forgot also). Chris Paul should deserve a good amount of votes for MVP. If not Most Improved, this guy is playing at a superstar level. He's making the fans rethink who the best PG is. It's not Steve Nash. It's not Jason Kidd. It's Chris Paul. He's on pace to do something nobody else has ever done before, average 20 ppg, 10 apg, and 3 spg. Paul is the total package. He can score (a couple 40 point games this season already), he can dish, and he can play defense. And he has the Hornets in the playoff hunt.

No one will acknowledge it, but Chris Paul is easily the front runner for MVP. First let's eliminate the other candidates.

Kevin Garnett - 19, points, 10 rebounds, and just under 4 assist are his lowest numbers in almost 7 years, yet the Celtics keep on winning. That shows he has plenty of help from Allen, Pierce, and a solid supporting cast. He simply isn't carrying the MVP type load this year.

Lebron James - Posts MVP type numbers every year, but unitl the Cavs can sniff anything near 55 wins for a season you just can't give him the award. Last I checked the Cavs were a few games under .500. MVP trophy's only go to players on elite teams.

Kobe Bryant - He's in the same boat as James. Great stats, but until the Lakers are considered as one of the top three teams out west, Kobe isn't in the MVP discussion.

Steve Nash - Great numbers and the Suns will win 55-60 games again this year, but like Garnett he has a ton of talent around him. Grant Hill, Leandro Barbosa, Amare Stoudemire, and Shawn Marion will get you 12 assist per game if you pass it to them enough. Nash is great, and deserved his 2 MVP's, but Kidd or Paul would have the same success if they ran point for the Suns. Kidd and Paul are also elite defensive point guards, Nash is slightly below average at his best

Dwight Howard - Probably your runner up for MVP. 22 points, 15 boards, just under 3 blocks on 60% shooting are numbers we haven't seen in a long time. The only thing that makes him a runner up for MVP is that the Hornets have a slightly better record at 23-11 to the Magic's 22-13. The Hornets also play in a tougher conference.

Chris Paul - He's averaging 22 points, 10 assist, and 3 steals per game while shooting 48% from the field, 37% from three, and 89% from the line. The Hornets are also tied with Dallas for the third best record in the western conference at 23-11. At that rate the Hornets will finish the regular season at 55-27. They only trail San Antonio and Phoenix by 0.5 and 1.5 games for the best record in the west.

Also consider he's not playing with superstars like Amare Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, Leandro Barbosa, Tim Duncan, or Manu Ginobli. He's getting it done with David West, Peja Stojakovic, and Tyson Chandler. He's also on pace to be the first player in NBA history to finish the year with averages over 20 points, 10 assist, and 3 steals. That's total offensive and defensive excellence.

DWight Howard- We've always known he was going to be a superstar but we never knew he would be a monster so early. he had improved vastly from this year to last year. LAst year he was averaging 17 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks, this year he is averaging 22 points, 15 rebounds and 2.7 blocks a game. He leads the league in Rebounds and is 4th in Field goal percentage and blocks =. His team is significantly better this year and are on their way to making the playoffs as they lead the southeast division with a 22-13 record and no real competition.

Runner Up:Lebron James HEs averaging 30 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Those are MJ like numbers or BIg O like numbers, hes probably the most talented player in the league right now, but the reason howard beats him out is because his team is 17-17 and currently only have the 7th best record in the NBA.

Right now it has to be Kevin Garnett-

I have never really been a fan but this year he is playing with a lot of heart and he really has the desire to win. He doesn't have to be the primary focus and he is getting his teammates involved. Of course, that entire team is playing with a mission. Ray Allen seems to have found the fountain of youth, and Paul Pierce is playing as if he were wearing Kentucky Blue. With a record of 29-3 isn't anything to laugh at.

Other runner ups are: Manu Ginobilli (this sixth man is the heart and soul of the team, his spark brings out the best of this team), LeBron James (He doesn't have the talent surrounding him and he is trying to do it alone, which I don't know if he has it in him), D-Wade (He too is lacking a supporting cast and is trying to do it all and he definately needs help), Dwight Howard (Monster among men, he is averaging a double-double and has his team in the right direction), and Tim Duncan (His numbers are not as great but live by example, he is leading his team through is patience, which in playoffs will speak volumes).

There is no question why KEVIN GARNETT IS LEADING THE MVP RACE. Thats not a arguable it is a fact from nba.com. Not to mention he is Probally the most consistently good player in almost all stats. Without him the celtics would not work. He is the big man who has probally the best high post game or 2nd best high post game to carlos boozer. http://www.nba.com/features/player_rankings.html

I say Chris Paul. Averaging 21 pts 11 ast and 3 stls a game. Thats numbers that even Steve Nash didnt put up. Paul's team is less talented that Nash's team is
