Sound card inquiry?
My Asus motherboard came with a SoundMAX sound card and I accidentally uninstalled the software but the hardware is still in the motherboard. I can't reinstall it because the CD got lost so, I thought of just upgrading and getting a new soundcard. My questions are;
1. Is the old sound card that came with the motherboard removable or not?
2. Can I get a new sound card to replace the old SoundMAX sound card that was integrated with the motherboard? If so, would it take the place of the old sound card in the motherboard or will it have to be placed some place else?

The "soundcard" on your motherboard is called onboard sound. Onboard is the term used for things built in to the motherboard, so no you can't remove it, but you don't need to. You can go to Asus.com and find the drivers you need to get the soundcard working again. If you wanted to upgrade your soundcard, I'd suggest you visit Newegg.com as they have a wide selection of computer goods.

If the soundcard is integrated into the MB then you will have to disable it in the Operating System and enable the new sound card after loading the relevant drivers.

if its integrate, it can only be removed by soldering out the sound chip. a much better solution is to just download the free sound drivers from the motherboard's website.
if you want to purchase an add-on card, it would be placed in a pci slot on your motherboard and in most cases, it will be the first to be recognized by your pc so you don;t have to disable anything.
