Scared of Airplanes?
I hate heights, which transends to me being scared of airplanes, bridges, tall buildings, etc.
How can I get over this fear of flying - I visit family a lot, and the only way to go there is by flying.
I've tried taking Xanax and it did nothing to aussage my fears. I'm too scared to sleep on a plane, so sleeping pills won't work either.
When I am on a plane, even during seemingly safe and smooth rides, I'll hyperventilate, and nearly start crying, but I can't help it.

Transcends. Assuage. I would suggest some counseling. Honestly, sometimes it takes the right push to help us get over irrational fears.

The only way to overcome your fear is to confront it. Statistics show that flying is the safest form of transportation these days. When you book your flight instead of getting a window seat get an aisle seat so you won't have to look out the window. Bring something to distract you like a good book; puzzles; games; magazines etc. As you are boarding let the flight attendant know your fears than at least they can reassure you. I would also recommend you bring your own snacks and chewing gum. Before you know it you'll be at your destination.

There is a lot of people who are afraid of flying but crashes rarely happen. The percentage is so small it is nearly impossible! They have millions of safety percossions in case there is a crash. Try not to let your fear pass on to others though, it may make them scared and may not want to go. If you go on a airplane bring your ipod with you to pass time, there may also be a movie shown. Also the landing and taking off is always the worse but after that it's smooth. If you get blocked ears, try sucking sweets, it helps!

Before boarding a plane, make a list of things that will calm your fears to remind you that you are strong, and that the flight is temporary-read them during the flight.
Bring little trinkets that will bring you comfort, pictures, small pillow, your favorite music, ear plugs, night mask so you don't have see things, or favorite book or magazine.
Make conversation with your neighbor on the plane to take your mind off of what's going on. Dont eat anything sugary or with caffine before boarding the plan it will accelerate your fears.
If you've flown before, you will soon have less fears over time, give yourself a chance.

I have the exact same fear, only I start to cry and throw up.
What you have to do - even if it sounds horrible - is face your fears. Thousands and thousands of people travel by flight every day and how often do you hear of something bad happening?
And it's heights, right? What makes you afraid of heights? Falling? Fly with someone who can comfort you.
You know it's irrational.
BEST OF LUCK!

There is only one thing that calms me down, and it works even if I'm having a full-blown panic attack: a cd of GREGORIAN CHANT (chanting monks). I swear to God, those chanting monks saved my life!!! Music works directly on the nervous sytem, and this type of chanting uses "harmonics," which has been used therapeutically since ancient times. Second choice: Enya, but the monks are the best. While listening, close your eyes, breathe deeply and tell yourself, over and over, "everything's fine, I'm fine, I'm fine."

Have you read about PLN .? it would be very long if I explain it to you but there are many exercises which can help you to overcome your anxiety. A friend of mine couldn't stand seeing a photo of her dead mom without crying and after the exercises she could. Hope it can help and not sound confusing.
