Nothing works as well as an apology, face to face.
Say something like 'I'm really sorry I --(did whatever)--. It was inconsiderate of your feelings and you have no idea how much I regret it. Please forgive me; I promise I'll never act that way again, ect.ect'
BUT only if you mean it. Don't lie.
