Humans didn't come from chimps. According to evolution there would have been a previous species altogether. That species would have had off spring with different mutations, ie: some with smaller jaws and larger brains, and others with more powerful jaws but less smart. These two completely different species eventually evolved into chimps and humans, with better skills than the previous one who has now died out.

Here is a similar question. If Americans came from Europeans, why are their still Europeans?

Also, with few exceptions, evolution takes a lot longer to work, effect change, than one generation.

Humans did not evolve from chimps nor any species living on Earth now. Chimps and humans did have a common ancestor. The process called branching from a common ancestor allowed the chimps (Panidis) to move off in a separate direction and become a unique species, same is true for the Hominids.

Humans did not evolve from chimps; both species branched out from a common ancestor.

The simple answer is that we didn't evolve from chimpanzees, but that both humans and chimpanzees evolved from a common ancestor.

It's a bit like asking "If my brother and me are both descended from my dad, why is he still around?"

Our ape-like ancestor (ALA) had a number of different populations, spread across different regions of Africa. In one region, the evolutionary pressures were such that human evolved from one population of ALA, while on other regions, the groups of ALA there evolved differently - into chimpanzees, or gorillas, or bonobos, or whatever.

Also, it's not like humans are the "target" of evolution. Evolution has no end-point or destination: it is an ongoing process of survival, and that's it. There is absolutely no reason for chimpanzees to evolve towards being more human. In fact, since humans are doing such a good job of filling the "intelligent, bipedal ape" niche, it is unlikely that chimpanzees would be able to evolve to compete with us effectively.

chimps didnt evolve into humans...humans spun off of chimps. There were some that had better genetics and began evolving while the others remained the same. The ones with better genetics breeded with each other and over millions of years our differences have developed. At least that is the theory.

Evolution is not progressive and has no goal in mind. You need to get these basic down first, or you are just wasting everyone's time. Go here.

Based on your logic, why isn't there only one species on the entire planet? I mean shouldn't have every species evolved into one by now?

That's because evolution is an atheist answer to creation!

we were all created by God!

humans and chimps and everything else.

    PERIOD!

Unfortunately evolution has been taught in schools and people believe it. Not just atheists but others as well.

    sad........

That's a good point you make. Some similar questions are, if evolution is true, why should we bother to conserve weaker species rather than let them go extinct? Also, if evolution is true, we might as well kill physically and mentally challenged humans to keep them from disturbing the process. It can be rather disturbing if you think about it...
