Which truck rental do you prefer: U-Haul or Penske? Or does it depend on the individual dealer?
I got quotes from both for a potential move, and Penske was half the price with unlimited mileage. There MUST be a reason why they are so cheap. Just wondering if anybody has had any good or bad experiences with either company?

I use whomever gives me the best rate and/or deal for the time I need the truck. I've never used Penske.
You can check the Better Business Bureau to see if your local dealer has any claims against them.
My friend had a bad experience with U-Haul twice so won't use them anymore. I've always had good experiences with them myself.

I have moved a few times and I only use Penske. I have only one problem with the A/C going out when I moved from the Portland, OR area to Nevada. I stopped in Boise, Id right at 5 PM and called. The mechanics is Boise stayed 1.5 hours in overtime to fix the A/C. I found that they have newer trucks. They do give the unlimited mileage so that you can take just about any route you want. Or if you want to do some site seeing on the way.

Never rented either for personal use, but I did lease Penske trucks for my business for a long time (eventually switched to Ryder). They're good to deal with, at least locally. I'm sure Penske is going to be more expensive than U-haul, though.

I worked in the rental car/truck industry for over 8 years... NO ONE will rent you a vehicle without a valid drivers license (nt even to take the drivers test!!) You need to contact a moving company or PODS. Or hope you have lots of friends with pickup trucks or SUV's.

Penske maintains thier trucks far better than U-Haul... you haul is better when it comes to 1 way moves were you don't have to return the truck to the orginal place of rental

Take it from a vagabond job seeker. After a few rentals, I got to where I would evaluate where the drop-off locations were in the destination cities using yahoo maps or whatever. I mean, how much fun would it be if you get to your destination, unload and then you gotta head out to the airport to drop it?
