The Bush administration has scaled back plans to quickly build a "virtual fence" along the U.S.-Mexico border, delaying completion of the first phase of the project by at least three years and shifting away from a network of tower-mounted sensors and surveillance gear, federal officials said yesterday.

Technical problems discovered in a 28-mile pilot project south of Tucson prompted the change in plans, Department of Homeland Security officials and congressional auditors told a House subcommittee.

Though the department took over that initial stretch Friday from Boeing, authorities confirmed that Project 28, the initial deployment of the Secure Border Initiative network, did not work as planned or meet the needs of the U.S. Border Patrol.

Our Social Security

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary.

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,

3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,

4.) That the money the participants put into the Independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the General Operating Fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other

government program, and,

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month --

and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the federal government to "put

away", you may be interested in the following:

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn't so. But it's worth a try. How many people can

Seems the White House talk is to raise taxes and cut benefits for social security solvency.... what happened to the 2044 date before Bush came to be president? Seems we've robbed that fund yet again!!! for other things like the war.... and illegal immigrants entitlements.... when are we the people going to clean house ?????

btw: I'm a republican...not a freakin Liberal so don't go there.. all the dam politicians are the same ...!!!!

Have you asked the inter city poor, the starving in rural Appalachia? Are all those construction jobs in Vegas low paying? You say we'd all pay higher prices ...aren't we doing that NOW with health care, taxes and increased crime? Doesn't America have the technology to "mechanize" the "big business farms? Or is it the small farmer that is being pushed out that is need of the cheap labor? We subsidize big business farms which drives up prices... we "GIVE" Mexico millions of dollars in "AID" why not use that to subsidize the low wages! What type job is next? Garbage men? Teachers?

5.Refinery "maintenance" scheduled during the mid east crisis and right before spring?

6.cost comparions given the price of crude now and before the gulf war ...don't yeild the same % increase for gasoline

7. a 45 cent increase overnight?

Then why are they defending NON-Americans? This organization needs to rethink it's direction... this is a land of MAJORITY rule ..isn't that why we VOTE!
