Who has a motorcyle license here?

I am seeing statistics that 30+ percent of motorcycle riders are not properly licensed. If you are, speak up! If you are not, please tell me why, and if you have a permit etc, and if you intend to take the test(s) and/or MSF. Do you ride without a license? What do you think?

Me, I have been licensed for years.

Update:

So in other words Jukari...No!

Update 2:

Light Knight, I think they get a permit and keep renewing it.

Update 3:

Yes R T, I did license the Zuma, but you know why, and contrary to what you think, I don't think 50cc should be licensed, just a minimum age and I would recommend insurance.

I am now. I rode for 20 years w/o an endorsement. I took the MSF course and was embarrassed to find out how bad, and unsafe, my riding was. Now, I can spot an unlicensed rider immediately. In WI, the MSF course is the standard. The state doesn't test any more. You must take a state-approved course first before you can get your endorsement, which is how it should be. The law should require the endorsement to get a bike registered. This would end alot of the mayhem here. Too many 50+, weekend juvenile delinquents, who don't have training and buy a Harley, so they can go on poker runs, get drunk and generally act like morons. Then they turn around and kill themselves or someone else. A recent NTSB study showed that motorcycle fatalities have doubled in the last five years. The majority (70%) of those killed are over 40, have no training, wear no safety gear (helmet, gloves, boots, etc.) and, excess speed and/or intoxicants are involved. Most of these accidents are single vehicle accidents. (i.e. riding off the road, losing it on a curve, etc.) My guess is that if the study went alittle further and looked at the make of bike, most would be Harleys.I see them here in Milwaukee all the time - passing me in my lane, weaving between cars in stopped traffic and doing all kinds of other stupid crap. And most of them aren't wearing any safety gear at all. Attitudes have to change - now.

All of us have a licence (motorcycle endorsement it's called) --- except my youngest son who is 15. His is a permit until he reaches 16.

There is no excuse for a person not to have a motorcycle licence (at least not in the state of Wyoming).

There is a written test (which is quite easy if you have bothered to read the little book).

Then you take the MSF class which costs $15 here. If you pass the MSF class, then the road test is waived and you receive the motorcycle endorsement.

I for years I rode without a motorcycle license and there was no problem with insurance. Finally, I along with a friend decided to take the MSF course. It was well worth it and with my certificate from the course I was able to get my license without a riding test, just the state's written test.

I have been riding motorcycles since 1962, but have only had an endorsement on my license for the past 10 years or so... Mainly because the states I lived in before then did not require a separate endorsement for motorcycles.

In America, the normal course of events to operate a car is to getting trained. and for most that occurs while in high school. In this country, the idea of being trained to operate any form of equipment begins early in life.

And think about this - There is no mode of man-made mechanized transportation that does not have a historical track record of killing people. So how important can training be? Would you try and fly a airplane without training and hope for the best?

Getting the motorcycle license (or endorsement) is the minimum. But real survival skills come from training. In the context of public safety and your own survival - PLEASE take the class!!! It's the only thing that makes any sense at all !

Source(s): Licensed from the beginning. 35 years on motorcycles. 10 years as an MSF instructor.

I have license for over 30 years plus the $10,000 insurance coverage required to ride with out the helmet here in Florida. In this state it is not required to obtain any type insurance to get your tag.

I have also taken the advanced riders edge course, which drastically reduced my insurance.

I don't have a motorcycle license, I ride a moped...I don't feel that moped riders need a license, I know that YOU disagree with this because you have put a motorcylce license on a 49cc Zuma....LOL (that was plumb Stupid to me).....But I do have a driver's license....

I feel that anyone who rides a moped or motorcyle needs a license of some sort, BUT there are certian circumstances that that would be understandable why they don't have a license, I myself can think of one case this would be true.... And you know who I'm talking about!

Licensed now. Road for 10 years without a permanent license (had temps). Finially decided to get full license after I got pulled over (only time in 10 years) and they towed my bike. Had to walk home and pay big bucs in fine.

i'm undecided in case you desire the license previously coverage. I stay in a diverse state, and grew to become into approved some years previously I have been given insured. the factor of having a license is to maintain your butt out of hardship with the regulation. in case you don't get the license and land up desiring to apply that coverage, you will in all probability get hammered each and each of how 'around. Johnny regulation gets a bite for yet another fee tag (a minimum of) and the coverage could desire to no longer even hide an unlicensed rider. it somewhat is a real undemanding out for them.
