Once the water is boiling nicely, how long will it take to boil 4 eggs?
Im boiling eggs in a pot of water right now, never really done it before :) But I was wondering, once they start to boil, how long do i keep them on there to get hard boiled eggs?

I'll generally start them in cold water (with the eggs in the water already), bring the water up to a rolling boil, take the pan off the heat, cover the pot, and let it sit for about 7 minutes (some people leave it for as little as 5 minutes, and some for as many as 11 minutes). Then I'll run cold water over them to stop the cooking process. If the water's already boiling before you put the eggs in I'd say ..... maybe 11 minutes? And then run them under cold water. Maybe you should just try 1 or 2 first :)

Once the water is bubbling, turn the heat down to its lowest setting and leave for three and a half minutes. Perfect soft boiled eggs every time. For hard boiled eggs leave to simmer for about 8 minutes. Cool them straight away and take the shells off. This will help stop the dark rim forming around the yolk.

when i cook my eggs, i get the water boiling and boil for 5 minutes, turn the heat off and cover the pot. i wait 5 minutes then remove the water and run cold water over the eggs. they are a done deal and i put them in refrig to get real cold.. i usually put salt over the eggs before boiling, so the shells do not break.

oh egg and soldiers....
Eggs go in boiling water, say about 3 1/2 mins for runny yoke,4 with just a slight run in the yoke,any-longer and you get just eggs...then you dip your toast in,have you got egg cups?
you can put eggs in cold water and soon as you see it start to boil then time your 3 1/2 mins,I tend to forget and miss that start and have to guess work it...
poached eggs are eggs cooked in water without the shell, couple ways of doing this, frying pan,or just pan,you can stick a cooky cutter in frying pan and place egg in as boiling, sometimes holds shape. also you can now get microwave poach cups.

Once they start to boil, remove pan off the fire and cover. For a soft boiled eggs let them stand about five or six Min's. twelve of fifteen Min's. for hard boiled.

Once they're at a boil, I time it for 15 minutes. As soon as the timer goes off, I drain the hot water, shake the pan good, and cover with cold water. They're really easy to peel that way.

15 - 20 minutes. Then I usually turn the heat off and cover the pot for a few minutes. Shell the eggs while warm. Run under cold water for a few seconds and crack the egg at the widest spot.

After my water starts boiling, I put mine in for about 15 mins. AND then crack them while they are still hot while running the egg under cold water. They taught me that in Culinary School because the shell comes off easier and that is how they store them in the fridge (no shells, in water). Let me know how your eggs turn out. ;-)

I can never remember if its 10 minutes or 15? So I always do the 15 minutes just to be safe =)

It depends how much you want them to run (the yolk.) I do it for about 6 mins, nice and soft yolk that isn't way chalky if you cook it for 10 min. (not saying the first person to respond is stupid, because it is an aquired taste for the way you poach your eggs)
