Is the US stuck in Iraq forever?
Will Iraq ever be strong enough to defend its people from insurgents?
Will it be strong enough to defend itself from its neighbors wanting its oil?
I say just make it a 51st state already, there is no exit plan.

Probably yes as long as the Republicans keep on power.
They are known to "fight" for "freedom" and "democracy" only where there is oil.
The oil will be either American or Iranian, but I don't really see Iraq able to defend.

Yes, the US is stuck in Iraq forever.
The US will never let Iraq be strong enough to defend itself. The insurgents are nothing more than freedom fighters.
The only people who want Iraq's oil is the USA and Kuwait. That much has been proved by their actions.

I think as with many other nations around the globe, the US will always have some presence in Iraq. I think for a few years to come there will be great numbers and "offensive" presence, and when substantial stability is obtained the numbers will decrease and a large base will remain to exert some "control" and watchdog duties.

Not sure about forever.
According to an active duty poll from Dec. 31, 2007 The Military thinks it will be there for quite awhile.
"How long do you think the U.S. will need to stay in Iraq to reach its goals?
Less than a year 1.9%
1-2 years 5.9%
3-5 years 24.5%
6-10 years 25.8%
More than 10 years 36.8%
No opinion 5%"

We need to get these republican arses out of power.
Only then will we have a chance of getting out of Iraq.
As it stands now, Bush has spent the future of our nation into the poor house, and for what?
the most effective ways to combat terrorism have been through better intelligence and a concerted police effort.
We will never win the war on terror by occupying other nations, only bankrupt our nation, both economically and morally.

We'll always be in Iraq, just not with the same numbers we have currently. Once the country's government is stabilized and effective, we'll still have a presence there in the form of a US embassy with some Marines residing in it, but that's about it.

No neighbor would invade Iraq for oil.
By the way, we have been helping Iraq with oil for many decades. American companies built the first oil derricks in Iraq.
