Seniors how many hours sleep do you need each night?

I used to have eight hours a night or I felt terrible the next day. Now it is four or five hours.

I seem to read in the hours when I used to sleep.

What do you do to fill in the extra hours.

I know I need more sleep but only get about 5 hours each night. Lately I have been staying up reading or watching a movie until about 11 o'clock and then I can get maybe 6 hours sleep. It would be a novelty in my life if I ever got the 8 hours that experts tell us we need. It is ironic that now at this time in life when we are able to sleep as long as we want, we just cannot..

Sleep is for the dead. I sleep when I can't go any more. Maybe I'll do a couple hours in a stretch. But, it probably isn't night when I'm sleeping. I've spent too many years doing the graveyard thing to want to pass up the best hours of the day!

I don't understand fill in the extra hours part of the question. If I'm not sleeping you mean? In that case, I live in an estrogen ocean...there are too many things that make up my life to record here. I just try to live to the fullest and enjoy this thing called life as much as possible. Pick up a few friends along the way. Give the next guy the benefit of the doubt.

It just depends upon how busy (and tired) I have been during that day! I sleep anywhere from 6 - 12 hours a night. When I do not sleep (about once a week) I usually read a good book. Sometimes I get up and watch a movie! But as we do not have a lot of time left, I use up every minute I have in a positive way! CJ

I have always been a nightowl...a habit it was hard to enjoy when I was working and had to get up at 5:45am everyday.

Now that I'm retired, I enjoy the late evening hours. I go on the computer....read, watch a movie, work on my hobbies.... Rarely do I go to bed before 1 or 2am.

I find that if I get 5 or 6 hours of sleep, it's perfect. I don't use the alarm clock and usually wake up naturally around 7-8am.

Last night, I read in bed until almost 4:30am and was awake at 8:30am.....

I still do the 8 hour thing or I am tired...I do not take naps, spend the whold day working either on computer or whatever...usually phone work, and that can be a killer! . Truthfully, little has changed in my life as far as sleep goes as I age. Studies show that those who get 8 hours sleep live longer...good god..does that mean I am going to have many more years of sitting at a computer and talking on the phone! For this I want to extend my life???? Phil

I usually get 4-6 hours asleep a day. I work third shift, so it is like I get a second wind once I am home, especially in the summer. On the weekend, though, I usually sleep 6-8 hours a night. If I have any free time, it is always spent on the computer!!

Depends on what I have done in a particular day. If I have worked outdoors and gotten really tired, or done a lot of any kind of physical excercise, I may sleep a full 7-8 hrs. If not, it is usually 5 or 6 hrs.

You have extra hours? Seems like mine are always full no matter how long or short my sleeptime is. Days are never long enough.

I go to bed at 10:00 pm and wake up at 5:30 am. Those nights when I can't sleep I just lay there hoping I will nod off. If it's really bad, I get up and go on the computer. A handful of Melatonin works well and is organic. Well, maybe three of four.

    I sleep between 5 and 6 hours a night. I haven't slept 8 hours in so long, I can't remember when I did.

Unless there's a really good movie on TV, I like to read at night when everyone's sleeping. I've also been known to clean out kitchen cupboards. LOL

When I get my laptop, I'll be able to get on the internet when everyone's asleep!

I usually get around 6 hours of sleep per night, maybe more in the winter. I usually read or do crossword puzzles. Sometimes, I just sit by the fire and look out the window and watch the snow fall and wait for the deer to come out of the woods.
