Please help me. Can anyone tell me how to get super glue off my formica counter top.?

I was in a hurry to fix something with super glue and got some on my counter top. I also got some on my solid oak table. I can't scrape it off for I will scratch the counter top and my table.

I tried fingernail polish remover on he counter top and it worked some but I am afraid to put it on my oak table.

Update:

I want to thank all of you for such good answers. It was a hard decision to make for best answer. But Navant S was the only one to tell me what to do about my oak table, I did what he said and it worked great. I did not scratch my table at all. Thank you so much!!

If your oak table has a french polish or solvent based polish it would get damaged.

Try good detergent. Take a small cotton pad of the size of the size of the glue that is spilled on the Formica or oak table top. Take that pad or swab and dip in a good detergent solution, which one used for washing delicate clothes. Keep that wet swab for a while and see intermittently if the glue is swollen or soft. That can be just removed with nails.

Please do not use force during this work

A few years ago I bought a bottle of "Super Glue Remover" at the hardware store. It comes in a half ounce brown glass bottle with a brush applicator. The bottle says it is made by the Super Glue Corporation, Pace Technology, Rancho Cucamonga, California. I don't remember what I paid for it but I don't think it was more than a dollar or two. I found that it worked pretty well. I've also used acetone. You can buy a can of acetone at the hardware store or the paint store and it is pretty cheap. Acetone is usually displayed at the store next to the paint thinners. You dip an old rag into the acetone and gently rub the acetone on the rag into the super glue. The acetone dissolves the super glue and working quickly you clean it up with a dry rag while the acetone is still wet. You may need to repeat this several times to get all the dried Super Glue. When you use acetone please remember that acetone is very very very flammable. Before using it turn off any pilot lights in the area (like on your stove top) and always be careful where you store the can of acetone. Also never use acetone on plastics as it will dissolve some plastics. I hope this helps you.

    Formica Table Top

Don't rub it. Let the superglue harden completely, then use a thin bladed knife and scrape it from the formica and from your table.

If you rub CA glue (cyanoacrylic, or superglue) it spreads and soaks into the plastic formica and the finish of your table.

Using an acetone based solvent like nail polish remover may etch the formica, and might dissolve the table's finish.

Try acetone or nail polish remover. Use a cotton swab to dab and than use a single-edged blade and gently work the blade between the two points. Take your time and be patient. Goo remover is also good...you can buy at any hardware store. Don't try any oils or creams as they tend to stain surfaces.

If it's dried it might not come off, but at time I've gotten it stuck to surfaces and plastic eye glasses. And soaking it for a minute in WD-40 for a moment has worked for me.

You can scrape it off with a razor blade if you lay blade at almost a flat angle.....take it slowly...don't try to get it all with one scrape. This will only work on counter top...table is another story.....more than likely you will have to sand it down and refinish the top.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.
