Will Joe Girardi be allowed to ruin Joba Chamberlain?

He has a history of riding his young pitchers to the point of injury. This happened to at least three young Marlin pitchers while he was there. I see Hank Steinbrenner said it will be up to Joe regarding Joba. Then a voice of reason, Brian Cashman said Joe and himself will decide Joba's role and amount of work.

Update:

Not a Yankee fan here, just a Joba one. I have him on my fantasy keeper team.

Joba will work on a pitch count or innings pitched basis this year because of his minor league experience. Your contention about Girardi ruining young pitchers has been commented on before but is surely not considered as pure fact. It has been announced that Joba may start the season in relief and start later in the season so that his pitch count/innings pitched does not get too high compared to last year.

As the first anwserer said, relax. Joe Torre had a history of using his relievers too much and he didnt over use Joba.

If Cashman or Stienbrener wants Giraidi to use Joba once a day only Giraidi wont do it. Its not like he would throw a fit if he doesnt get his way with Joba.

I think Joba would have been ruined if the Yankees continued to baby him.

He is a major league pitcher for crying out loud. He is supposed to pitch. Why would they not want him to pitch.

The guy is a stud, and he should pitch like one.

Did Roger Clemens get babied or how about Nolan Ryan.

No great pitcher was babied when they came up. They just pitched. So should Joba

I think it was ridiculous that they kept him on that short leash last season anyway. He's a power pitcher and a big guy to boot. He can handle the load. Even if Girardi gives him his fair share of innings this season, I don't think he'll miss significant time. Besides, young arms are unpredictable because you never know how they might have trained in high school and or college. They might have had bad habits and doomed their arms long before they ever reached the majors.

    You disgrace the Yankees.

How could you try to put down a young guy who is going into his first season managing one of the biggest sports teams in history.

He won manager of the year for just 2 years ago. Need I remind you it was for the very young Florida Marlins. How could you say he overworks them when he managed an all-young team?

Joe has been with the Yankees for a while. Being on the YES Network, playing for them for a bunch of years, and being their hitting and bench coach for a few years

Well we will see how he used Joba during the season relax for the moment

You will not see that happen. The Yankees will keep a very close eye on pitch count and innings, he is too valuable a commodity to take any chances with his health.

Relax.... He also won manager of the year for taking "minor "league team as far as he did.

    You have a good coach.
