My PC has gotten very slow. The normal disc cleanup and defrag aren't helping.?

I've tried to down load a program from PC DOC or something like that but my PC kickes me off when I try the download.

I've recently changed my ISP from Bellsouth to NET ZERO, but the speed hasn't changed.

Is there something I can do to speed this thing up? My dialup is supposed to run at 26K but I'm only getting from1.8- 2.5 k in real speed. Something that should load in a few minutes will usually take a couple of hours. Oh yes I have virus protection and when I run it there is no problem found.

Thanks Glenn

Did you mean your PC is running slow or your connection speed is slow. If both then it is always like this or it just happen to be like this one day.

(1)First of all your PC or connection speed might run slow because you have used too much space on your hard disk. If there is no room in your hard disk. The cache might have to clean up when it is overloaded. This clean up process while you are still loading some web pages or working on your computer might slow the overall process speed down.

(2)Too many programs running in the back-ground. Some programs starts when you start your PC. You need to know what is running on your PC. Even better you know why they are running and how many CPU they use. I suggest delete or disable those programs that you don't use often if they automatically starts when you run your PC.

(3)If all this just happen one day and it wasn't used to be so slow then you might need to run a virus scan. Disconnect your internet connection -> Start your PC -> Run a full system virus scan -> deleted found viruses -> Restart your PC -> Run a full system spy-ware scan -> Delete found spy-wares -> Turn off your PC -> Connect the internet wire -> Start your PC.

We do this because some virus uses remote method or warms to control your PC. Thus something is running and you might not know it.

(4)Your operating system might not work properly. I assume that your are using Windows XP services pack 1. You need to update your OS. Run updates until you are up-to-date with all the programs install on your PC. Virus or scripts that harm your PC uses the bugs that exist on your programs. Therefore if you need to update everything possible and make sure the bugs isn't making a hole for viruses or scripts to break in.

If you have checked and done all the steps above and nothing works. I suggest you re-install your OS. However, this will erase all files and programs exist on your hard disk so you might need to back-up your files before you do so.

Let's assume again that you have gone that far to re-install your OS and still the overall process speed is slow... At this point it might be your hard ware that is doing the trick. You need experts near you to diagnose this beast.

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
