Does Laura Bush deserve to be President as much as Hillary?

Hillary claims to bring 35 years of experience to the office. But really, hasn't she only been a senator from NY for 7 years? Before this she held no office, and served in no elected capacity, and in no capacity approved by the Congress, such as a cabinet or other official government post. Her "experience" is as the First Lady" of Arkansas and the US.

Laura Bush has been the First Lady of Texas a much larger, significantly more populated state. (There are more people in 3 of Texas' major metropolitan areas than in the state of Arkansas) and the First Lady of the US. Should we also give her some points for being the daughter-in-law of the President of the US and the sister-in-law of the Governor of Florida?

Does being a First Lady actually count as experience?

Update:

TE: As far as being a popular politician, that is a matter of personal opinion, but right now it seems to be about 33% in one party. Regarding her capabilities as a Yale lawyer though working for the Rose Law Firm, and a key person in the formation of Whitewater, she claimed before congress that she was "just a housewife and didn't understand the papers she signed" She also didn't seem to have any concept of the issues realted to the White House Travel OFfice Scandal, though she was enmeshed in it, and she was again "just a housewife" when the Monica Lewinsky issue brought her again before Congress. Yes she is experienced, she is the first First Lady supoenaed to testify before Congress.

Update 2:

Sorry about the typo I meant related

This has to be judged on a case by case basis. Hillary's experience as first lady was to sponsor/push a failed health care initiative and failed education initiative. During Bill's second run for President Hillary said she was a simple house wife, which she repeated during White Water investigations when she said she couldn't understand complicated legal documents that had been put in front of her to sign.

While, I'm sure, the President often speaks to his wife about his issues, they are not able to discuss significant security issues, or have the first lady at daily briefings and normal cabinet meetings. While Clinton gave his wife the opportunity to work and design a health care proposal, she was not using the government agencies as much as working with private pay insurance agencies and pharmaceutical agencies, the end result was her plan was a dismal failure, and was not supported by either party.

She herself claimed she was just a housewife, when confronted with issues by prosecuters, but then turns around and says she was right with her husband making decisions.

It is also funny how when having Bill Clinton beside her helps her campaign she pulls him onto the stage, but when he is bringing her down in the polls, she pushes him off the stage to the back.

At one point, she stated he would be a "key adviser", and when he caused her polls to drop, she stated she would "make the decisions."

Basically, she does have 7 years as a senator, but most of the candidates have more experience than that.

Next thing we will see her on stage in Monica's Blue Dress.

At least Laura Bush knows how to be a gracious and respected First Lady! Say what you want about her husband's choices, she has been great in her role, just as Barbara Bush was great in the role before her.

If Laura would run for the Senate win and serve for almost eight years with a good record, I would consider voting for her. Being First Lady teaches you a lot about how Washington works, and brings you in contact with international leaders, even if you are not as involved as Hilliary was. She would certainly be as qualified as most of the front runners today. Why do people think woman have to be the best qualified person but will support men who are not?

The arguement that absolutely makes my blood boil is when people say Hillary will make a good President because her husband was a good President.

Sure, as first lady, she gets to see a perspective that few other people will see. She is the only candidate that has any real first hand knowledge of the life of a President.

    However....

My wife is good at mudding, taping, and sanding drywall. I've worked at remodeling houses and have a good concept of most anything that could need to be done in a house. However, for the life of me, I can not mud, tape, and sand drywall. I just can't make it look good. My wife has shown be how and tried to teach me, but I am still no good at it. No matter how good my wife is at it, I still suck.

So because my wife is good at working with drywall, does that mean I am to? Obviously not. Just because Bill Clinton was a good President, does that mean his wife will be as well?

Sure First lady counts for something, but not much. It shouldn't count for anything near what real job experience does. In that aspect, Hillary is really lacking. I don't think I can bring myself to vote for her personally....I'm not sure Obama is much better.

Surely. Any first lady has known what her husband had been doing as the leader of the most powerful nation. That alone is a big experience. Add to this the different functions she had done as wife of the President and other designations. It's only a question if Laura will join politics or not.

I don't think Hillary ever had a job except for the one in New York. She's basically a homemaker.

If she is as good at keeping terrorist out of our country as she was at keeping teenage girls out of the oval office, we're probably in for more attacks.
