Mormonism and the Samoans?
Why are there so many Samoans who are Mormons? I know of at least 5 people who are both Mormon and Samoan. Is it like the "national" religion or something over there?

The reason is because long ago (I'm not sure when) Mormon missionaries traveled to Samoa to spread the "Good Word."

According to what I read, Protestant Christianity is the main religion practiced in Samoa. Some classify cults like LDS or JW as part of Protestant Christianity, since for them the term Protestants are seen equal to non-catholic. Others (like me) would classify Christianity among 4 main divisions:
Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, and others.
Are the 5 LDS Samoans related in some way? Maybe you just know 5 members of two samoans families who happens to be LDS.

No other reason than they have been very accepting of the Gospel there. In either Tonga or Samoa over 50% are LDS including the King.

Yes, it pretty much is their national religion. :-) Many Samoans have converted to the LDS church. It's like that in many of the Pacific Island nations.

No it is not the national religion. Samoans are predominately Christian.
