Down comforters?
I would like to buy a down comforter. What sort of things should I look for? Thread count, etc?

the higher the thread count the better (400+)
baffles - get one that looks like the down is stitched into little boxes instead of on that looks like a bag filled with feathers. the 'boxes' stops all the down from shifting around to one side.
machine washable - dry cleaning costs a fortune

Get a cream or white one and get the decal glue at Hobby Lobby or Micheals or Joanns. It is for temporary sticking of fabric decals on other fabrics. Cut out the colorful patches, spray the glue on the back and place the colorful patches on your plain jain comforter. That is the easy no sew and redecorate at will thought. Other thought is to make a Duvet cover for a nice dull comforter in any pattern even patch work that you like. You can put little hooks or snaps or the loop stuff on the edge to close it so your comforter stays in. This also makes redecorating easy. My daughter gave me a down lap blanket a couple of years ago. It now needs a new duvet as the old one is getting a bit frayed looking. Very easy redecorating.

that is entirely up to your taste. Thread count is more about preference. Feel it and see which one you like best. The first answer is true though, if it doesn't have individual quilted pockets, the filling goes to one end.

thread count and amount of down and washability or dryclean... the numbers of pockets....
my lovely and talented wife went on a mission from god a couple of years ago to find and purchase the perfect down comforter....GAWD i'm glad that's done....

--pick your needs-you can get feather, feather/down, or down
--the more down, the warmer it is, the more expensive it is
--make sure it is quilted in squares
--NEVER dry clean these comforters...it ruins them...always wash them in a large machine...you should hang them if possible outside and air them occasionally
--you should use a duvet cover on them so you don't need to wash them all the time (wears down the down/feathers and their warmth)

Quilted, otherwise all th feathers will lump up on one side and you'll have to shake it all the time.

Oh, sure,i understood.It's terrible.
Feathers should be on living ducks, not in somebody's bed.
