Macbook Air or Macbook?

ok... at the moment, i have a white macbook, with a 50(or 80) gb hard drive, 2.0ghz processor, 1gb of memory, the OLD OS (what is it... tiger? the macbook is from october of 07)... i am 16, and i love all of the music software and imovie/iphoto... but ive found that the hard drive on my macbook is UNBELIEVEABLY small, and i need to delete most things... im really debating as to whether i should get the black macbook with 160 or 250 gb hard drive, 4gb of memory, and the 2.2 processor, or the macbook AIR, with the 80 gb hard drive, 1.8ghz, and 2gb memory... help?

IMO the macbook air is mostly for people who want to show off, you pay more for less and the screen size is the same so your bag is going to end up almost as big. The hard drive in the macbook air is barely bigger than that in your current mac and the other specs are all worse.

Since hard drive space is your problem I would suggest simply replacing the hard drive in your current machine with a larger one. The hard drive in the macbook is not that difficult to replace (though you do need a very small torx screwdriver bit to transfer the caddy to the new drive) and suitable drives (2.5 inch sata, 9.5mm high) can be easilly obtained in large capacities (320 gig units are now availible).

P.S. apples build to order options are a ripoff. It is often cheaper to replace parts after purchase than take apples upgrade options. The black macbook is even more of a ripoff

A lot depends on two or three things. How much money do you have to spend? That will help determine which two or three you can use. I like the Air. First it is fast, it is very light and it is not all that expensive. The only problem people have with it is the lack of a disk drive. However I have two external drives, both are fantastic burners and both were cheap. They also came with their own Mac Drivers. I have external HD, to the tune of 2tb and external zip drive and external floppy drive. If it is external I got it. Other than being hit with dumb stick when I went Mac buying a few months ago I would have been the owner of an Air. I own a MacBook Pro (intel of course), it is fast, aluminum, heavier than I can carry now days so I loaned it to a friend who needed an intel MacBook. She is in 7th heaven, loves the speed, the ports, the ability to use VOIP. She is a videographer, does wonderful work. She loves the heavy duty computing power over the G5 she has been using. MacBook (classic), Own two of these, (no kids), one on permanent loan and the other is part of my home herd (4 in number). I have this years MacBook. It is ready for Lion, already has the interesting touchpad, it is running at 2.4ghz, hey when I started with mac and one went to 7mhz, so I am more than pleased with the speed and power, plus I get hours of use, usually 0730 plus hours. So I am more than pleased except that it doesn't have firewire. There is a work around, so I am not all that bothered by it. I think the Classic should handle anything college could toss out. Some demand a specific OS type program, but Macs run both Mac and Windows natively, so I don't see that as a problem. U just get boot camp, follow the instructions and get a partition and put Windows in the partition. Have fun at college

The MacBook Air at 80GB is the same as what you have with a slower disk access speed. Though with music/videos etc you don't so much need a new laptop but another external drive (or 2) and MacBook Air has a cute solution for that - check out a MacBook Air MacBook Pro comparison here http://hubpages.com/hub/MacBook-Air-vs-MacBook-Pro...

Well, sounds like your biggest concern is the hard drive size.... I think you should get the MacBook with the 250GB hard drive. Maybe you can just upgrade the drive in the MacBook you already have? By the way, that new Air is sweet, huh?

The Macbook air is such a ripoff. Trust me, you will go crazy with a 4,200RPM hard drive. It's really slow. Plus the solid state drive Macbook Air is freaking expensive.

In all other situations i would say get the macbook air, but since memory is your issue, i say get a new macbook with more space. The macbook air is amazing, but the 80 gig HD is the only hold up. Good luck, now, if you dont think you need more space, i say def. get an air. =)

I wouldnt go with the mac air because, as you said you think you HD is way to small, so that would not be an upgrade. Also you would be down grading your processor (the heart of your computer). The air also does not have a cd/dvd drive (because its to small)

i think there's no question that the macbook gives you more for your money. i guess you need to decide if the look of the macbook air is worth the extra money, and lack of features (like built-in optical drive.)
