What if... the Dems and Republicans declared civil war on each other?

I'd join a underground rebellion.

But this will never happen, the Dems and Repubs are too close with each other to start a war.

I'd love to see a revolution against both of them by the people though.

Well, way back when - in the days where the Republicans were Liberals who wanted to end slavery and Democrats were conservatives wanted to protect the 'traditional values' which they claimed were decreed by God, we had one. It was awful, and other nations sat it out. In the end, the liberals won, but the conservatives managed to drag their feet and resist any implementation of civil rights

Nowadays the real fights seem to be between authoritarianism and individual freedom, and between religious fundamentalist extremism and modernist pragmatism. Do we want to be more like the countless industrialized nations which we have inspired worldwide (much of Europe, Japan, South Korea, Australia, with India and other advanced developing nations following suit), of fall back into the idea of kingdoms (Saudi Arabia) with power shared primarily between a few elite families, where secrecy is the order of the day, and the people are beholden to the government rather than vice versa.

But this battle will likely be fought on the intellectual front - on a battlefield of words, like this one. Debating in a marketplace of ideas advocated by the enlightenment ideals of our forefathers using technology our forefathers never dreamed of in which almost any citizen may speak their mind to the masses..

I doubt much of our military would support a coup or power grab - their loyalty rests with our nation, not with any particular party nor individual.

I am reminded of a famous quote from Thomas Jefferson - which seems eerily apt for modern times:

"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt. If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake."

You're scenario seems as unlikely as it is repugnant (the scenario, not you). Rest assured though, the strong ideals upon which our nation was founded will reassert themselves with time - just as they have over and over again throughout history, and once more we will look back (just as we have on everything from the alien and sedition acts to McCarthyism) and wonder what the heck we were thinking.

There are a LOT more Republicans in the US military than Democrats, so the Rep would wipe the floor with the Dems.

First, the stuff made in China is crap and usually breaks quickly, so I'm sure the Republicans would gain a quick victory, then deport the Mexican troops. That actually sounds pretty good to me.

Actually, most NRA members are Republicans, aren't they? So the Dems wouldn't have a chance.

You seem to forget that the liberals are pacifist and will give up rather than fight. Perhaps Hillary could get her Chinese friends to send in some troops to hasten their takeover of this country.

This is a reason why our forefathers didn't want a main 2 party system.
