Zeta gundam, its pretty old, BUT ITS SO FREAKING GOOD XD I highly suggest it. Or you can try the newer Zeta Gundam movies.

FullMetal Alchemist. It has a little hint of romance between the main character and his friend, LOTS of action, they use alchemy but in a magicy sort of way but still in the scientific kind of direction, and there is lots of comic relief. One of the BEST anime I've ever lay eyes on. Hey look! I can even tell you where you can watch it! In English! (I think the dub is better then in Japanese, please don't hate me, The Japanese voice gets too annoying. Like Naruto's dubbed voice!) The only problem is they took the first episode off this site, so you'll have to look on myspace or gofish or veoh or somewhere like that.

dragon ball and dragon ball z, but you really have to watch from the beginning of dragon ball to get it. a lot of people watch one episode of dbz and don't know what's going on, but if you follow it, it has a strong plot
