War for oil or democratic government in Iraq?
The Persian Gulf War in 1991 put the U.S.'s access to two-thirds of the world's oil reserves in great danger according to Senator Murkowski.(2)
Opening oil fields in Alaska would decrease U.S. dependency on petroleum imports from the Middle East and Latin America, boost the revenue of American oil companies, would create many American jobs, would lower the price of oil for American oil consumers, would increase federal, state, and local tax revenues, and lower our trade deficit.
Congressman Don Young (R-AK) charges that the government has been "infiltrated by preservationists. This is a socialist movement."
Where is the oil?
Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Venezuela, former USSR, Mexico, Libya, USA, China... in that order so far. (Some exploration in the US is being banned apparently.)
Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Oregon, is demanding that the Commerce Department release detailed reports on which companies are exporting U.S. oil, how much and where it went.
Last year the nation exported 268 million barrels of oil. Shockingly, according to Dept. of Energy figures, that's about equal to the amount of oil we imported from Iraq in 2001, the year before our latest war with that country began. It's also about equal to the most optimistic guesses about production volume from ANWR, if drilling is allowed there.
In other words, if we simply held onto our own oil, the United States would have no oil interest in Iraq at all. And it would also negate any perceived need to disturb an irreplaceable wildlife refuge in the search for oil.

1. The opposition to self production oil is ignorance because, non-american oil drilling is less eco friendly.
2. The one thing that has not been tried is importing oil from India which has oil reserves 2 1/2 of the oil reserves that OPEC controls.
3. exporting oil is often related contracts and, brings more money home.
4. The War was only intended to take out saddam with his government but, the europeans ironically had other plans. Saddams government paid company's in France, Germany, Russia and, China over a half trillion dollars to rebuild after the 1991 gulf war. These country's were often unpaid, some company's were on the brink of implosion from debt which would show lowest earnings in the euro oil industry in 20 years and, so the Iraqi's decided they wanted to split government into a rebublic of 5 nations giving each people group a nation earasing a debt. The Eupeans started making calls and, the next thing you know the state department steps in to "rebuild the Government." Now we went from liberaters to occupiers and, we enlisted the help of many old saddam criminals to build this government. The action we took gave terrorist in Iraq look honest and, started a Civil war during the occupation. The question is why did the state department help the euro dollar at the great cost to America?

I agree; everyone is spouting that we must remove our dependence on foreign oil. Yet if we try to tap our vast resources in Alaska they squeal like t little girls. If we go after our coal deposits then they act like the world is falling apart. Do not even mention a nuclear power plant, f you do, prepare to be in court for a while.
We are told what we have to do is conserve. Drive tiny little cars and allow the government to control our thermostats (I must admit that sounds like an old conspiracy theory but it is now true).
Even if we did conserve; why would that help if we did not increase energy production. That would be like a diabetic reducing his reliance on insulin by 50%. He would still die if he was dependent on the same source
He may have reduced the amount but he still gets it from the same source.
We must produce our own energy idf we expect to remain free and prosperous.

You don't have the political muscle to get drilling done, nor the muscle to lose the war. With out conservative support you are Don Quixote chasing windmills, The Libs ain't going to do it either.
