Why Intel over AMD?
I read a lot of the yahoo answers, and the choice between Intel and AMD were about even, but a lot of "Intel supporters" just say "Intel all the way" with no reason. So now I'm asking you, Why? If you choose Intel over AMD, why? And if you pick AMD over Intel, or have no preference, no need to answer. Its not that I personally choose AMD over Intel, its that I found a lot more reasons for AMD than I did for Intel.
Again, please dont answer if you choose AMD or have no preference. Dont answer with "its up to you." Thanks!
OK, the question is WHY.

one hting that nobody mentioned yet, and it is the biggest reason as to why intel cpus are better performers right now. That is the fact that the base core2 chip runs on a 65nm process as opposed to amd's older 90nm. (yes i know they now have the 65nm too, but it is not flooding the market) This means that the transistors are smaller and use less power. Less power = less heat. Less heat = more speed because you don't need a freezer in order to keep it cool!
That being said, the new 1333/1600mhz fsb cpus that intel is releasing right now are on a 45nm process. So again, smaller transistors. AMD will now have those dies till the end of '08. In addition to that, the best amd chips that are now becoming available (the phenom quads) were all botched during production. The yields on them are so low that they are rolling out tri-core chips in order to recover some money out of it.
Bottom line: the fastest intel chip at newegg right now is qx9650 yorkfield 3ghz. Theses cpus have 12mb on die cache. That's 4mb per core. Since they are 45nm process chips, they can be overclocked to around 4ghz.
A comparable amd chips: doesn't exist yet, but one of their best offerings is the phenom 9600. This chip operates at 2.3 ghz. The L2 cahche is at 512k per core, that is low, but there is an additional L3 at 2mb total. Since the amd chips don't use fsb, the ht opens the bandwidth a bit, but the cpu itself isn't fast enough to fill it. This is one of their newest chips and is on a 65nm process. It can be overclocked, but to nowhere near 4ghz.
Based on all of that, intel will have a technology advantage at least until the end of '08. Then they will release nehalem which will also incorporate an ht style bus increasing bandwidth and negating one of amd's long time advantages.

It depends on the exact chip. Like I bought an AMD because the same power in an Intel would have costed me more. But the comp I bought before that had an Intel because the AMD would have costed me more. Intel may have the fastest CPU today and then tomorrow AMD could release a faster one. Then six months later Intel starts it all over again.
AMD has powerful CPU's and budget CPU's just like Intel does. In other words they both sell some good expensive CPU's and they both sell some cheap crap CPU's.
Both Intel and AMD have sold chips with flaws in it where the chip didn't work right. Depending on the motherboard and things like that. So you can't really say Intel is made any better.
I just replaced the power supply on a computer with an AMD that is over seven years old. Athlon 500. It's still going even though the power supply blew. So you can't really say they're cheaply made . I also have a P III 450. So if you take care of them they both last. But then again both a brand new Intel and a brand new AMD could fry in it it's socket the first day you have it. It all depends.
Intels seem to use more wattage, but they're always working on new lower power components so that could change tomorrow.
I've seen a lot of Intel computers kick an AMD's butt. I've seen even more AMD's kick Intel's butt. Truth is, most things people do with computers are not 100 percent dependent on the CPU power.
You have to take into account how much RAM you have, how fast that RAM runs. Your video card RAM and speed. You're hard drive speed. If you can save a couple bucks buying an AMD and then use the money you save to buy more RAM or a better video card you could very well beatout the Intel with less actual CPU power. So you have to pay very close attention to what you are buying.

AMD in a price war is better. But in a quality war will lose. AMD may have a faster throughput but that is because the chip consumes more power which translates into more heat.
Intel has protection built in to its processors to slow the chip down so as not to damage this chip or the board under high stress times.
AMD does not use this type of protection.
If you remember back about 10 years ago AMD had a recall because the chips actually could catch on fire and not only take out the chip, but it took out the system board too.
This has been corrected but they still run hotter than Intel.
Now for a word for AMD, With Intel and Microsoft on the outs over Intel developing chips for Apple and the Eee PC , Microsoft did 100% of its design and development of the Vista Operating System on AMD processors.
Information came from the AMD/Microsoft Power Tour in Philadelphia, PA. in October 2007.
Could this be Vista's problem?

Probably Because High Quality Or Because They Give You"More Bang For Your Buck" In terms Of Power I Haven't Seen Anything From AMD That Would Match Up Against Intel's Core 2 Quad But If AMD Makes Something More Powerful Than my Current Processor Which Is Core 2 Quad I Might Buy It But If Intel Does it Before them I'm Gonna Buy Intel's While AMD processor's Compete By Price Intel Competes By Power

I initially went with intel through clock speeds of the P4 and P4 based Celerons, that and my college district grew to become into working the two Pentium IIIs and Pentium 4s in all of their platforms, and my mom extensively utilized intel based desktops while she worked as a foodstuff provider contractor at IBM, yet AMD makes good processors regardless, the Athlon 64s have been a extensive hit in the process the time between the middle of the P4 line and the final of the Pentium Ds, and had continuously concept AMD grew to become into not so good as intel (intel brainwashed me!) yet as i've got been given extra matured interior the pc international, AMD began to not seem so undesirable, so im now questioning of establishing a AMD based abode pc the three words that come to my innovations approximately intel: *Pentium *Celeron *Intel interior Now approximately AMD: *Athlon *Sempron *Hypertransport

on the cheap end the AMDs can be quite useful as a bargain processor.
on the more expensive end, Intels just blow AMDs out of the water in performance.
AMD had a pretty good hold on Intel 2-3 years back but since last year they have been playing catch up big time.

At this moment in time Intel processors are faster and better value for money.
When Intel released it's Core 2 Duo range of processors it wiped the floor with AMD. Just google Intel vs AMD to see lots of comparisons.

I bought an Intel quad core last week purely because it was better value for money than the same spec AMD is at the moment.

DRM. Google for it.
Intel processors have DRM functionality built-in that prevents you from bypassing copy protection.
AMD does not.
I rest my case.
