Information on branch detail?

Hey I'm an MSIV AROTC cadet, and I'll be graduating earlier than expected. As a result I need to choose a branch fairly quickly in time for accessions. I have heard that some officers may choose to "branch detail" with another branch (normally combat arms) before reverting to their main branch. Are there any officers or those in the know on here who have done this or know someone who's done this? Any info or experience would be great.

I've known officers who have done it. In fact my LT is doing it now. You will go through the Officer basic course of the branch you are detailing to. Then spend i think 2-3 years in that branch. Say you want to become a finance officer but want to see combat before you go then you could branch detail to Infantry then go to finance after your detail is complete. You will maintain your branch the whole time however and not be eligible for branch specific awards and decorations such as the Combat Infantry Badge.
