The internet is filled with lies and propaganda, and if you don't become used to it, it will chew you up and spit you out.
The reason people flame and troll is because they are free of the social constraints imposed upon them in real life, being desensitized to text on the internet they don't feel real anger like they would in real life - so they can ignore the whole "do unto others thing" and express their real feelings.
When reading Wikipedia, you don't just read the article, you also read the talk page to see what controversial viewpoints people are arguing about. If you want to develop a balanced, objective viewpoint on any subject, the best place to learn it is in a bitter conflict between people with opposing viewpoints.
So "being an asshole" on the internet allows a more efficient method of communication. You can get your view across faster, people see your true feelings, and the heart of the matter is reached much quicker.
If it upsets you, then you really need to reevaluate how you use this wonderful new medium.

Do you ask us this question as you are still in hope to find people who are not a.............. and not stupid, or do you upfront expect from us that we are also part of the big group of everyone?
My opinion is you must attract these types of people like a magnet as otherwise how did you manage to only meet either a............ or stupid people?
But this was not your question as you asked about the "when" so the time when it became generally okay for all the people in this world to become either a................or stupid.
If I answer this to you friendly, then your whole theory would actually fall into pieces, that every one is either an a...........or stupid. Then will you treat me like an a............or will you give me a stupid reply or will you treat me like you want others to treat you? But if you treat me like you want others to treat you, it shows that you are not an a......... and you are not stupid and so the "when" question is also not necessary anymore as you will have vital proof that your assumption is not correct.

If your IQ is over 143, the first 270,000 people will be dumber than you are. The average IQ in WW 2 of the US serviceman was 96. Factor in ruthless law enforcement, desperate in fighting for position, depressive emotive models on the TV, lack of sympathy for dying puppies, and yeah, you get a nation of scumbags trying to become super A$$Holes, because they think they need to. It gets worse if you add in evil intentions from multinationals, warfare for practice, and people who think that all people should be punished instead of educated. Fear is where it is at bubba.

LOL I know what you mean. If you don't have anything nice or polite to say than, it should not be said at all. The problem with this world is no one has manners. Many have poor upbringing and is entirely sad.

there's a couple theories.
i'm not entirely sure of the psychological name for it, but there's this one idea that goes that people aren't *******, but you only seem to catch them when they just happen to be one. Say a waitress who's normally a decent individual just happens to have a crappy day and unintentionally takes it out on you. it doesn't mean she's not great to her kids and otherwise kind to people, your interaction with her is such a small window of her life, that it just seems like she's a total ******.
long story short, most people (if you take the sum total of their lives) aren't *******, but rather ******* for small stretches of their existence. those of us who are unlucky cross their paths at these rough stretches just think they're douchenozzles.
another theory - blame america. specifically the whole "pursuit of happiness" part of the constitution. a lot of the time, the pursuit of one person's happiness coincides with the screwing over of someone else (not always, mind you. but doing things that result in everyone benefitting isn't always easy or cost-effective). ideally, the whole being nice to people started out as a way for small groups of people, villages for example, to band together and get ahead (ain't gonna kill that mastadon by yourself after all). now that people are living in fractured isolation, the only people you're really that friendly with are your family (and sometimes not even that)
but yeah, just 2 theories. hope this helped.

Funny. I just asked the same question. Ignorance runs rampant and gives way to cruelty.

It is human nature for all of us to be a**holes at times!! I know I am guilty of this...What makes it ok is to recognize this basic human flaw, work around it, and just for kicks----be an a** on purpose just to stir the pot!! LOL

I think assishness is associated with freedom of speech. I find that sometime I like to be an ***, although I certainly don't like encountering them. It is okay though, to be an ******, because this is a free country, and you are free to completely ignore my assly comments if you don't like them.

yea it seems like it, its hard to find real good people. I let this lady turn first at a stop sign today and this idiot came up behind me and blew his horn, so I started driving real slow to be a dumbass back.
