Do you think GUN CONTROL is the right approach?

Most city, state and even the Federal Government are proponents of gun control but, does it work? My contention is that it does not, it only serves to limit the number of firearms that the law abiding have and keep.

The criminals, for which these laws are written, gain a great deal from them. If there are less people out there that own guns legally, then the only ones that will have access to them are those who buy them illegally.

Do you really think that, because they are banned, the bad guys are going to stop using them? Of course not!

I'd like to know if there is anyone reading this that has an idea as to how it's supposed to work because, for the life of me, I can't figure it out.

I look at both England and Austrailia, both of which forced their people to give up their guns, the vast majority did so, against their better judgement and the possabilities of stiff fines or inprisonment. The people that kept them, for the most part were the criminal element. Crime rose!!!

Vermont... no gun laws lowest crime rate in US. Anyone can concealed carry, with no permit.

DC...strictest gun laws in US. Virtually no ownership yet HIGHEST crime rates in US. That goes for NY, California, NJ (Newark and Camden are war zones, yet NJ has strict gun laws.)

Laws are only followed by people who follow laws.people who do not follow laws are criminals. Coincidentally, they are also the ones who commit most crimes. New gun laws will be ignored by criminals just like existing laws are.

England has seen a HUGE increase in violent crime and a rise in gun and simulated gun crimes in the ten years since their ban. More UK cops carry guns now then Pre-ban to confront the rise in gun crime.

Until we ENFORCE the laws we have, its the same old, same old.

    Illegal gun...10 years, no parole

Illegal gun used in a crime?...20 years..no parole THEN whatever sentence you get for the crime committed with the gun. To run consecutively. NO PAROLE.

When we start doling out MANDATORY, no judge discretion 10 and 20+ year sentences for criminals caught with illegal weapons, gun crime will drop.

GOOD ARTICLE BELOW...writer brings up a lot of good points....

I believe in gun control. In most cases it just means using two hands when aiming, or sometimes stabilizing yourself against a solid object. It's also a matter of self-control, to use one's gun responsibly and only when it seems necessary for the protection against violence.

Banning law-abiding citizens from owning guns (or otherwise regulating guns out of their reach) should not be dignified by such an innocent-sounding misnomer as 'gun control'.

It doesn't work if you HAVE gun control. It doesn't work if you DONT HAVE gun control.

The whole point of gun control is to discourage possession, make ownership (the people who own them) accountable and responsible owners, but what it does is permits an attitudes that gun ownership is ok, and that is what's wrong.

The more guns, the more changes of theft, accidents, misuse, etc.

Let's face it, with half the people suffering from depression and other mental ownership (just check the stats on how many people are on anti-depression meds) putting a gun legally in hands of people like that isn't really a wise idea is it?

If suicide rates are up, murder rates are up, it's because we make it easy in putting the tool right into people's hands.

Most guns used in crimes are stolen, from registered gun owners.

That's my take on the subject. We've lived in this country without guns for 150 years and only until recently when guns are being smuggled in from the US has crime and gun use risen in this country.

Everyone always says people from the USA are paranoid.

Well hell, if I lived in a country knowing anyone could blow my brains out any time because everyone owned a gun I think I would be paranoid too!!!!!

It's a moot point anyhow. The world is too corrupt at this point it doesn't really matter who owns guns and who doesn't. So much hatred that it's only a matter of time before the hate escalates to a point where the bad guys use the biggest gun of all. We all know where the path is going to end one day.

You are quite correct. As a cop, I'm glad that 85% of households in my area have guns. If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

no gun control period.never worked never will.the founding fathers worked to gaurantee our right to bear arms.they backed it up with the 10th and 14th ammendments.these were put into place not only to protect us from our own government but so incase we were invaded we could protect ourselves from them.and the way it looks.that could be anytime.

cars and trucks kill a lot of people too. maybe we should outlaw cars and trucks? cars ,trucks and guns all have a common denominater, what is it? its the people that mis-use them. we just need criminal control.
