What is your response to this all-too-common viewpoint?
This is a recent question I saw. I thought it should be posted on "Military", so people in the military could respond to it.
Did you know that Iraqi is not the same as Muslim?
I'm just letting some of you on here know that they are two separate things... and that the media calls the enemy "Muslims", when we're really just in war with the Iraqis.
I mean, the insurgents there are just an uprising of Iraqi civilians and militia who lost their jobs in the process of deba'athing the country. The Iraqis really... don't have anything. So I don't blame them for killing our soldiers. I'm just ticked at the president and his congress for keeping them out there for no reason... letting innocent people on both sides of the fence die...
Your opinions?
Please remember that I didn't write this! I am just quoting someone else, and I think it is completely ignorant of the facts. Thanks!

Not every Iraqi is a Muslim. And most of the Ba'athists who ran the country were not devout Muslims. Hussein's Prime Minister was a Chaldean Catholic. But, as far as our current actions in Al Anbar Province and some of the other provinces, we are fighting the Hirabah who are allied with Usama Bin Laden. Since the Hirabah follow the doctrine of "Takfir", which says it's O.K. in the carrying out of Jihad, for Muslim to kill Muslim a lot of what is reported as "civil war" is not that. It is martyrdom operations being planned in a Beyit Al Shuhada and launched against civilians, no matter what their personal faith or belief might be.
The majority of the Hirabah being killed or captured by coalition forces are not even Iraqis. They have performed Hijra and are in Iraq for two purposes: to kill members of the coalition forces and to terrorize the Iraqi population.

Well you are right that Iraqi and Muslim are two different things. We are at war with Iraqi insurgent, Al Queada operatives, and Other groups backed by Iran ,Syria and god knows who else. And by the way we are winning the peace.
The true insurgency is all but over, the Iraqi Government is getting stronger and their military and police forces are taking over more and more of their own security.
Have innocents died? Yes , as they do in all wars. sad but true.

Well whoever posted that is sadly misinformed or trying to diseminate misinformation.
Iraquis are indeed Muslims, two particular sects - the Sunis and the Shiaa ( excuse if I've spelled this wrong)and those two sects don't like each other very much. The sunis are now working with the Americans in certain areas trying to keep things calm.
The Sunis and Shiaas are also two of the Muslim sects in Afghanistan, read the Kite Runner to see how well they get along there .

We are not at war with the "Iraqis". We liberated the Iraqi from Saddam. We are at war with terrorists who happen to be muslim. Radical muslims. It seems that all terrorists are muslims but not all musliims are terrorists. If you look at any pictures of service people in Iraq you can see how they care about the kids and the innnocents. Guess what, those people are almost all muslims.

I would tell them to look at the statistics.
50% of insurgents come from Saudi Arabia
And just about every weapon we find belongs from Iran.
Only 10% of the insurgency are Iraqi nationalists.

I dispute your claim that we are even at war with the Iraqis, never mind with Muslims.
My government keeps telling me we are at war with terrorists....not that I always believe everything my government tells me of course.
I wasn't aware that we were at war with any particular nation at this time.
So yes, I understand that there is a difference between Muslim and Iraqi.

You're kind of a dimwit arent you. most of the insurgents in Iraq ARE NOT Iraqi and all are Muslim. It is your view that is wrong....All insurgents are muslim, not all muslims are insurgents(yet).

Anybody with half a brain cell should know the difference between a religious belief and a nationality. Iam in agreement with you about your feelings about (our?) president I have always felt that he should go into combat and experience first hand exactly what it feels like to have your life in danger.

You don't blame them for killing our soldiers? Why don't you go to Baghdad and join the fight along with your good insurgent friends?
