Christian Fundies/Creationists, how do you deny the science that proves a Noachian deluge is impossible?

To cover the Earth with 3 miles of water, a corresponding amount of atmosphere would have been displaced (into outer space.) As the atmosphere "boiled off", the lighter gases would go first, leaving a greater proportion of heavier gases, so why don't ice core samples confirm this changed atmosphere?

The amount of potential energy contained in the massive volume of water required to flood the Earth over 40 days (we're talking 5.5" of sea level rise every 13 minutes!) would release a HUGE amount of kinetic energy. The energy released by this much falling water would cause a subsequent temperature rise of almost 2700 degrees F. Water boils at 212 degrees!

Furthermore, a flooded planet means there are no plants left. Even the Cyanobacteria are dying. The life cycle has been temporarily broken. There is nothing left but slimy, gray slop. What did the animals eat once they were released from this ark?

I swear I am embarrassed to count myself among the same species as some of you fundies.

Update:

Note... the science that disproves the Noachian myth is the SAME science that prevents your kids from getting polio, and enables the computer you're typing on to function.

Update 2:

Thank you, Jennifer, for getting the most patently absurd answer out of the way quickly.

Now, do any of you want to try to give me a rational answer?

Not a Fundie, bout you seem to have been misled:

    Genesis 7:11

"the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broke up, and the windows of heaven were opened."

This is saying that the aquifers of the earth released as well, which contain more water than the moisture content of the atmosphere.

You do raise a great question I've never thought of:

What the heck did the animals eath when they got off the ark?

Your calculation involving the volume of water and temp. is incorrect. Obviously, falling water cannot be heated to 2700 degrees as you claim. When you use the correct kinetic energy formula below, you will find the water temp. would only rise 7.40 degrees C.

The relation between kinetic energy and momentum is more complicated in this case, and is given by the equation:

    E_k = \sqrt{p^2 c^2 + m^2 c^4} - m c^2.

This can also be expanded as a Taylor series, the first term of which is the simple expression from Newtonian mechanics.

What this suggests is that the formulas for energy and momentum are not special and axiomatic, but rather concepts which emerge from the equation of mass with energy and the principles of relativity.

According to ancient texts it wasn't a flood. It was a tsunami of cataclysmic proportions that began at the south pole and went all the way to the north pole and slopped back and forth until it settled. This happened thousands of years before Sumer. Some of the survivors went into what became Egypt some to Sumer and other pockets of survivors found land where ever they could. The bible does not give a true account and the cataclysm is thousands of years older than the Noah account. What was ancient history became myth and later became legend. The water didn't get that deep. It was a tsunami like the one we witnessed a couple of years ago, only on a cosmic scale. It wasn't a flood like the bible states.

    Printninja AM VA,

I just thought as a "Christian Fundies/Creationists" (though by no means a trained scientist) I would give you a brief possible explanation.

    :-)

It is my understand that the flood recorded in Genesis covered the world, but not the entire Earth. The "world" may have been the "known world". Which could mean the areas around the middle east and the Mediterranean. I have heard this theory proposed by various "Christian Fundies/Creationists". Yes, there is varying opinions on this subject. In either case, I have read several Non-christian scientists who have given evidence that may support this theory as well.

Printninja AM VA, I have enjoyed your questions you have posted over the past few weeks (I have just started R&S here resently). They have either ticked me off, or cracked me up! Either way, I do enjoy you willingness to at least take the time to hear us Christians answer them. I was wandering if you are a scientest yourself, or a lay person?

Oh, one last thing. I jhave noteisted your avitar. Guy Fawkes right? Isn't it a bit ironic that an athiest like yourself would chose a Roman Catholic revolutionary? No offence, just found it...... ironic.

Thanks again for the chance to answer.

    Have a good one!

    Elder Greg

I really appreciate that there are those people who do not believe the bible. And, if these same people want to argue how a flood such as described in the bible could not have happened (and use the amusing term Noachian deluge in the process), that's up to them.

The first answerer will tell you everything you need to know about faith and why, to some people, "living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all they see". Hard to reason with faith.

    Edit: Pretty much impossible, actually.

Edit #2: Jennifer, here's the deal. I don't know you, but I'm absolutely positive you're a great person. I'll even go on record saying I'm proud of you - for being here and sharing your beliefs. I disagree with them. That's all.

EDIT #3: You see, Jennifer? You managed to get the most patently absurd answer out of the way. No shots were fired.

Because they are not scientists and don't want to be, they done believe in it. Well maybe some are. But if they were would they be christian? That is the question I want to know.

The first answer really scares me.

Our country is sincerely at risk and with the science education kids are getting and with their comprehension of logic and reasoning, there isn't mush hope.

Having pride in your ignorance is such a strange thing to me....

"I swear I am embarrassed to count myself among the same species as some of you fundies." LOL

Calm down, Ninja.... They'll come around to accept reason eventually.
