Should the MLK holiday be changed to Civil Rights Day?

This would include celebrating all civil rights leaders ( like Chief Joesef, Cesar Chavez not just Dr. King) We already do this with President's Day!

Update:

Sorry that this is in Valentines wanted to put in other.

Chief Joseph was an Native American (Nez-Pierce)

Cesar Chavez was a Mexican (by birth) but done his Civil Rights work in the US.

I feel that the MLK holiday takes away from the fact that the Civil Rights movement took place in many places and with many people that had no involvement with Dr. King. (UFW marches, AIM at Wounded Knee, Mt Rushmore) I just fear that we are making the Man seem more important than the cause! What about Bobby Seales, Russell Means, Malcolm X....etc?

There are probably many more worthies that could be named, it just happens that King was the one who caught, and still catches the imagination. It may be because his message was not just political or even humanitarian. His conviction came more deeply from his spiritual life and that is a quality that also makes the US great. Though invoking God may sometimes sound trite and even hypocritical, it is far preferable to the European Union choosing to deny the influence of Christianity in helping Europe develop - and the US constitution inspires, whereas the drafted EU constitution was wisely rejected by the European voters, most of whom probably never read it, maybe falling asleep out of boredom if they tried. Yes, the times enable a great person to emerge, but King, Gandhi, Churchill, Lincoln, Washington - and Edmund Hillary - rose above their times.

I understand your thinking, but what would happen is that the idea of what Martin Luther King started in this country would get watered down.. it would be less important.. this is a US holiday, not a worldwide holiday..
