Wondering About A Body Piercing License?

I live in Alabama, But I Want To Be Able To Do My Work In Florida As Well. I Cannot Find Anything Online About An Application For The License. Can Anyone Point Me In The Right Direction? Thanks.

Ask local piercers how they went about it. You probably can't apply online and just go anywhere to get it since you have to take courses in order to get the actual license. Ask the people who do the work you want to get into, they will be the best source for information and you will know you can trust it.

-Best of luck in getting your foot in the door! Hope it all works out for you.

Alright, the first steo is to talk with the artist that you are working for. He/she will have a lot of insight on the licensing requirments for your area. Often time that is a certain amount of hours worked under the supervision of a licensed piercing artist. Generally, the board of cosmetology in the area will be in charge of the licensing. There will be a few fees, a written test, and a performance test. Passing these will result in your liscense so long as you have completed everything required. Get ahold of the local government offices and they can put you in touch with the people you need to speak to. To everyone else: In the USA, it is required in EVERY state to have a license to pierce or tattoo. If one does not, they are performing illegally and subject to huge fines and possible jail time.

check with each states department of health....each state is different and anyone in the body modification industry will tell you that they are the best place to gain the rules and regulations that govern the practice in that state.

for Florida start your search here

    http://www.doh.state.fl.us/

    for Alabama

    http://www.adph.org/

through these resources you will find the state laws that govern the piercing practice, however many states require that you complete an apprenticship with someone currently licensed in said state. also each state is diffrent as far as what is needed to succsefully complete an apprenticship and the department of health will fill you in on the laws there as well. for example to tattoo in texas....the artist dosen't need a license but the shop must be licensed meaning they can hire any scracher off the street to come and work in the shop, if they know what they are doing or not! however in arkansas the laws governing the individual artist licensure are acctualy very strict....what might go for one state may not go for others!

as of right now there are no official licenses to become a piercer.. You should be red cross certified in blood borne pathogens, CPR,and cross contamination.. you can take that on line for a fee and get it in the mail.. BUT that does not mean that you will get a piercing apprenticeship.. Go to your local shop and ask if they don't give you a straight answer bug them until they hire you on or throw you out..

I don't know exactly how up-to-date this website is for all states, but it's a start for what you're looking for.

Calling local studios and asking about their license is also a good idea, but it's possible you'll get some cold shoulders if people think you're moving in on their business.
