Am I allowed to drink decaffeinated tea???? I know caffine is bad in pregnancy - so im hoping decaf is a good alternative?

Yes, I was told decaf is fine, as is decaf coffee.

But I was also told to avoid some of the herbal teas, because some of them can induce labor...

My doctor said that decaf was fine to drink but I should still keep it to 2-3 cups a day. Not to drink all day long...

Also, most herbal teas haven't been tested in pregnant women so stay away from anything that is labeled "herbal". Loof for decaf black teas. Flavored is fine. Most herbal teas are labeled in pretty obvious ways.

    Congratulations on the pregnancy!!

Yup absolutely safe! Some doctors say its ok though (like mine) that if you watch your quantities you can have a cup or two of regular tea a day, so check with your doctor. I rarely drink caffinated drinks but when I do, it's nice to know you can go and get a specialty caffinated drink once in awhile =D

Decaf thumbs up all the way! Just remember if you put sugar in your drink, not to use sugar subsitutes w/o checking with your doctor, some of those are harmful for the baby.

(I treat myself to a chai latte once a month or a coolatta and my son squirms every time I drink them, it's funny!)

Some teas will start some contractions I believe raspberry tea. If you are having morning sickness, peppermint is suppose to calm the stomach. Here some info that I found:

"teas made from ginger, lime blossom, peppermint, roasted barley, rose hips, and thyme are probably safe to drink occasionally in small amounts while you're pregnant or nursing. However, drinking excessive amounts of any teas can cause health problems for you and your developing baby.

Many of the herbs used for teas, when taken in large or medicinal amounts, can potentially stimulate the uterus and induce miscarriage. These include anise, catnip, chamomile, comfrey, ephedra (called ma huang in traditional Chinese medicine), European mistletoe, hibiscus, horehound, Labrador, lemongrass, licorice root, mugwort, pennyroyal, raspberry leaf, rosemary, sage, sassafras, stinging nettle leaf, vetiver, and yarrow.

Among other reasons to avoid certain herbs used in teas:

    • Coca (also known as mate de coca) contains small amounts of cocaine.

    • Comfrey, kava root, skullcap, valerian, and woodruff may damage your liver.

    • Lobelia contains nicotine.

    • Mate (or yerba mate) can contain as much caffeine as coffee.

None of these herbs should be taken while you're pregnant or nursing."

yes you can drink it, but keep in mind that tea has a chemical in it that stimulates the bladder. so keep it to a minimum unless you wanna go pee even more
