1993 Ford F-250 4x4 Problem. 10 pts For whoever knows what to do.?
Alright, first it is a 1993 Ford F-250 351 with 85,000 miles, and manual locking hubs with an automatic transmission.
The 4x4 light in the dash is always lit up? it doesnt matter if it is in 2H 4H or 4L. I know i am disingaging the hubs right. Do you think my transfer case wont get into 2H, but my hubs are unlocked?

Maybe the switch for the light on the shifter or transfer case is stuck in the on position.
If you have been in the mud or its really cold it can stick.
Try replacing the switch first before you get too deep in the transfer case.

After you put the vehicle in 2 wheel drive and you are sure your hubs are unlocked, pull forward slowly and have someone look under it and see if the front drive line is turning if it is then your transfer case is not coming out of 4X4 if it is not turning then it probably just a problem with the position sensor on your 4X4 select and I wouldn't worry about it.

first you have a sending unit light that is hung on would be my guess.
to find out if your hubs are un lock, jack up the back of the truck off the ground and on blocks under the axle. put it into 2H and try to move in D. if it doesn't your light is stuck on and tranfer case is fine. Go under the rig and find the sending unit that is like the one at the back of your brake pedal half way up that has a push in contact that makes your brake lights come on when it is out. This is called a normally opened or closed Switch, It depends on the position it is in when lite.

I would check the switch on the transfer case that controlls the light. If the shifter is going to the right position it may just be the indicator switch.

No doubt the switch that turns on the 4x4 light when you shift is finally stuck on. 85K is a long time to do the same job.
