How much does it cost to get your jewellery (more specifically an engagement ring) officially appraised?
I need to get my rings appraised for insurance purposes, I'm wondering if I should go back to the jeweller I got the ring from or if I go somewhere else will it be cheaper to get appraised. Can you put the price range that it cost you to get appraised to if you've had it done and where? Thanks so much!

I had to pay 150$ per ring, I thought that was way too much so I went back to the point of purchase and told them that after I had spent so much money with them why they couldn't get this appraised for free or at least some percentage off.
I ended up getting them for free, so for future reference if someone says you need to get your ring appraised for a lot of money then you can always take it to someone else for cheaper. I would get this done sooner than later for insurance purposes as well since you don't want something to happen to the ring and not be covered. I've also seen that happen to (not fun). Good luck to you

That's a little myth some Jewelry company started so the man would feel obligated (ahem, guilty) into paying more. Some say 1 month, some 2, some 3....that should tell you something right there. I'm going to sound like a broken record, but it's not really important *how* much he spends....the meaning behind the ring is more important. However, if you want a general idea...most men do fall prey into that 2 month's salary rule. My fiance would have spent his life savings on my ring if he had the choice (I didn't let him!). I said I'd be pissed if he spent more than $1500....we could use that money for so many other things....down payment, CDs, mutual funds, etc. I can always upgrade a ring. I can't downsize :) You and your fiance need to discuss what works for you. If he can afford an expensive ring, then go for it. If you're both struggling students like my fiance and I, probably not such a great idea LOL. Wish you well -kiki

The jeweler who sold it to us did it for free. I had it appraised again recently by an independent jeweler and they charged 10% of the value of the ring. They had a $50 minimum so if the ring was worth less than 5000 they charged you 50 anyway.

The store I got mine from did it for free. We looked into official appraisals by independent companies and it cost about $100-$150. I called my insurance company, and they said the free jewelry store appraisal would be fine.
Check to see if you can add on the ring to already existing policies! You can get a rider on you home or even auto insurance to cover the ring for a smaller fee than just getting insurance on the ring.

The jeweler who sold you two your rings should appraise it for no free. Be sure to check with your original store first, but any jeweler will appraise your jewelry for a modest fee.

normally any jeweller will be able to appraise something. The national jeweller store in the UK, H Samuel, offer this service at around £30 per item.

It cost me $95.00 at Jareds. They have an appraiser come in every 3-4 months.

the jeweler where my fiance bought my ring, gave him all the paperwork, i.e., appraisal information at the time he purchased it and actually contacted the insurance company BEFORE he ever left the store....I'd go back to where it was purchased....

i went back to my jeweler and it was free.
