Who hates Lebron James for designing his new shoe to look like a Yankees uniform?

CLEVELAND (AP) -- LeBron James loves the New York Yankees -- from head to toe.

The Cavaliers' All-Star forward, who angered some Cleveland fans by wearing a Yankees baseball cap in the Indians' home ballpark while cheering for New York during last year's AL playoffs, has taken his devotion to the Bronx Bombers one step further.

James' newest sneaker in his signature line with Nike is a tribute to his favorite hardball team: the Yankees.

Update:

I only used the word hate because it was very specific and would elicit more definite responses instead of vague answers from people saying they thought it was "okay". I realize a shoe design is a silly reason to hate someone.

I live in Cleveland and am a huge Indians fan. On one hand, he has been a Yankees fan since he was a kid. Ok - that is his right and not everyone in a city with a sports franchise roots for the hometown heroes. However, he is now on a national stage, playing in a city that has been very hard hit economically. He has the opportunity to put even more cred into his hometown (actually Akron, about 45 minutes or so away) but chooses to tout NY - as if NYC needs it. I have also been to NYC and love it, just love it - but I live in Cleveland so if I had the same opportunity, I would be sportin' the hometown colors. All he is doing, in my opinion, is setting the stage for his future world busting contract with the Knicks. I thought it was his right to wear his Yankees cap to an Indians playoff game but to flaunt it was stupid because he has to know that everything he does is magnified by 10 and in the media. He is a role model for the kids of Cleveland. He grew up in the area. He is from the Cleveland area, born and raised, not the Bronx. I am not a Cavs fan, not a basketball fan, just someone who sees them in the headlines or whatever. And as such, I can say that if I were leaning one way or another, this would cause me to not give my money to anything he is doing. Yea - he has done good for the city of Cleveland, yadda yadda yadda and anyone going into all that garbage can put a cork into it. He gets paid dang well by the Cavs. He gets props all over Cleveland, even when he gets stopped for driving 101 MPH. But he PLAYS for the Cavs and gets paid by the Cavs but he LOVES NY. I'd rather go see the Indians than to go to the Q to see "King" James. The same FALLEN king of the finals. The Arod of Cleveland.

I personally don't care how Lebron James designs his sneakers. I can see why it would bother some people from Cleveland but still not a reason to really hate the guy.

Besides he's a basketball player. If the Yankees are his favorite team, that's his business. If the shoe was designed after a different basketball team's uniform, then it would be a different story.

I don't care if it's a limited edition shoe. It's dumb and it shouldn't have happened. He was born and raised in Cleveland. People there LOVE him! Why would he go out of his way to alienate them? I totally get sticking to your guns and I appreciate his loyalty to his team, but the fans he gains in NY WILL NOT outweigh the hurt that many Cleveland natives feel.

P.S. Nike can not put his name on a shoe without him signing off on it. So anything about it not being his choice wrong.

i don't hate anybody. Now i don't understand why it's such a big deal that he is a yankee fan and he lives in cleveland. How many people are from one state and love a team from another state. it's ridiculous people get so caught up on stupid things like this. My father was born and raise in nyc and he was an atlanta braves fan is their anything wrong with that? No. there is no rule that says you should root for your home state team.

I don't hate him for it... Let's think this out, he is designing a shoe to SELL shoes, so lets combine the most popular NBA player, with the most popular sports franchise... seems like a no brainer from a marketing perspective.

In a perfect world would he love the Indians? Yea, but you have to follow the money.

The shoe itself is pretty creative. I like the look. But it just isn't very...conventional, especially for someone who's supposed to be the face of the franchise...well, hell, the league too! I just wonder why navy colored shoes weren't enough? Wouldn't people get the hint? Pinstripes is pushing the envelope a bit.

  • I don't hate that bandwagoner LeBron.

I think they will look something like the pic here:

    Also from the article:

''They're hot,'' James said. ''I like them a lot.''

As with all of his signature shoes, James' consulted on the design, which includes his No. 23 on the tongue in the block lettering used for Yankee uniforms. On the underside of the tongue is James' name inserted into a popular Yankee Stadium cheer: ''Le-Bron Ja-mes, Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!''

    (Lolz!)

First of all I think those shoes look like a piece of crap, second of all Lebron didn't design them. He is just putting his face and image in the shoe and product. Lebron basically signed a contract saying I will appear in commercials for these shoes I will help promote this shoe and I will wear this shoe and last I will put my name on these shoes. Lebron didn't design them he just getting a millions of dollars endorsement deal with someone else who designed them. So cleveland shouldn't be mad at him.

When the Chicago Bulls came back for the finals months later, Truman had more applesauce waiting for Jordan along with a bold request: "Are you doing anything with your shoes after the game?"

Jordan looked him in the eye and said, "Why, you want them?" Truman said he would be honored.

After leading the Bulls to a critical victory, scoring 38 points despite having to be helped on and off the court by teammates, Jordan gave the redandblack shoes to Truman. memory champion Nelson Dellis shares his secrets for strengthening your mind Earthquakes shake Los Angeles (gallery) Photos of the day March 29, 2014 (gallery) Photographer Julie Jacobson (gallery) Photos of the day March 28, 2014 (gallery)

The design of a shoe is no reason to hate. Also, Lebron has nothing to do with the design himself, Nike pays him a lot of money for the right to use his name.
