Is this an example of atheist's much touted morals?

OK, atheists are always posting their hate mail on here and whining abot it, so I think that turn about is fair play.

I had sent an e-mail to a guy who stated, basically, that Christians are hyprocties because we claim to believe in Heaven, but we never pray for death.

I asked him, "How do you know what anyone prays for in private? It is arragant to assume that you know other people's motives, or their private pain. This is why people tend to dislkie atheists. You seem to assume that you know everything, and you always talk down to everyone that you disagree with." (That might not be an exact quote, but it is close enough.). This is the reply I received, which, oddly enough, re-enforces every sterotype that I just spouted about atheists:the reply is insensitive, rude, presumptive, and the person who said seems to be obviously insecure.

Update:

Message: Okey doke. I'll take baby steps for you, then...

Then why doesn't Billy Graham, leading prayers, say, "Dear God, please kill everyone in this room tonight, because we all want to go to heaven as soon as possible"?

Are your prayers different from Billy Graham's? Probably not, eh?

Then it's a safe assumption, on my part.

By the way, the reason YOU don't like atheists, is because you are a brainwashed member of a doomsday cult. Normal people like atheists just fine.

Have a nice day!

Update 2:

Thoughts on the "message", or the attitude that it represents? See why many "Christians" get annoyed at atheists sometime?

So? You are going to let one person be representative of millions, and you don't believe yourself to be a hypocrite?

One e-mail doesn't encompass the morality of every atheist. Doesn't your "good" book teach you not to judge?

OK, here are my thoughts. I try my best to stay out of any of these arguments and leave the idea of where everything came from up to the experts (aka scientists on both sides). I love to read and study both sides but I refuse to be brainwashed from either side. No, I am not agnostic, but I find out what I believe is the truth for myself. I have argued many things, probably more, with churched folks than I have with those outside. Why you may ask? Because neither side gets it. My answer for this feller would be simple, because we are doing everything we can to love you and show you the truth so you won't end up in hell. I desire heaven like every Christian, but I also realize I have a job here to do. Now for the flip side. Even as a Christian, I love reading about new discoveries and like those of the secular world, I try to see how these truths fit my theory found in Genesis of 6 literal days of creation and a flood later on. Just my theory. With everything, be careful no matter where the material is coming from. Always test according to God's word and study hard so the testing will always be more stern.

Oh do grow up. I've got a load of religious spam that would make your ears curl.

'Atheists' aren't any more moral than 'religionists', they just have to defend against that claim more often (that they are 'immoral')

Atheists are all different, every ...single...one. ALL different personalities. Just like religionists. Atheism isn't an ideology or a collective.

    Can't you understand that?

"This is why people tend to dislkie(sic) atheists. You seem to assume that you know everything,"

As opposed to those who claim that their faith is The Answer To Everything?

I'm an 'atheist' simply because I DON'T claim to know everything, so that puts pay to your nonsense.

PS, outside of the US and Islam, people don't 'tend to dislike atheists' at all, it isn't even an issue...

I wonder why...only vocal US Christians and radical Islamists tend to 'dislike atheists'....hmm?

I love Victoria Jackson... that was pretty cute too. I don't particularly like the type of atheist she was singing about. I'm lucky to have never met one in real life.

I'm confused. Are you saying that Christians DO pray for death? Otherwise, it seems that he was right in the first place, and you had no basis for even sending the e-mail. Either way, I don't see this as an example of how all atheists act.

  • I can understand why you are upset, but it goes both ways. Hate mail nfortunately comes from both sides and I wish it would stop.

Hate mail over something someone believes and cannot be proven is stupid, pointless, and for the arrogant.

Also you mentioning that ONE person REINFORCES a STEREOTYPE is sort of prejudice and uncalled for, as was his assumption about people's prayers. It a way you have made a hypocrit of yourself, just like he said. Hate mail only leads to more hate mail, be the bigger man and don't continue the cycle. Don't bother with atheists like them and don't let him lead you to believe atheists are mean.

    Stick to the nice ones.

The mindless bickering between the two of you is hardly anything worth commenting about. For every one example of arrogance shown by atheists in this forum, I can show you 5-10 from Christians.

I wonder what would have happened if instead of "atheists", you wrote "black people" or any other minority.

We can't pass our test by leaving the examination room before the time's up.

Most athiests are not rude, presumptuous, or "arrigant". I'm sorry if that's your impression of us. We are merely trying to practice our (non)beliefs in peace. I hope that you can carry on practicing your own beliefs, as well. I promise that I do not in any way find you a "hyproctie".
