First oil change for 2008 Subaru Outback?
I've always thought that most cars should have the oil changed after the car is broken in at 1000 miles. The owners manual for my new Subaru recommends a first oil change at 3000 miles. Any ideas or input on this?
Any thoughtson using a synthetic over conventional oil when i do have the oil changed?

I would never use anything but synthetic oil, and only Mobil One at that. It's easy to find it and you can top it up almost anywhere. Synthetic oil protects the engine best at all temperatures and lasts longer and doesn't make your engine sludgy. Use it and your lifters will be very happy. Once installed, change it when it gets dirty or thick. Everything depends on how long your trips are and your driving style. Most engines today come with synthetic oil from the factory. There is a good reason. There are many modern engines that if you don't use synthetic oil, it voids the warranty. Read your manual.

I have had the same thoughts with new car oil changes. Its just a few extra bucks so go ahead and do it. Most engines do need a break in period and the oil and filter could have lots of small metal shavings in them that don't need be there.
My thoughts on a full synthetic oil is "NO" at 3 times the cost you'll still have to change as often. Go with a name brand oil and filter and keep it to the 3000 miles rule.

I tension a 2006 Outback 2.5i..... its an excellent automobile, is going via 3.5 ft of snow with the inventory all-season tires, gets 36K miles a year on it. that's been complication unfastened. My handbook additionally says to alter it first at 3000 then each 7500 after that... yet for my section, you need to use a non synthetic oil one and all thousand miles till 3000, then you definately could use a stable synthetic like Royal pink or Mobil a million and then substitute the oil each 3000 miles after the engine wreck-in. additionally, examine your oil one and all thousand miles, because of fact the boxer format of the engine is designed to apply a tiny little bit of oil for the time of usual use. yet your Subaru will final you constantly in case you adjust the oil each 3000. All of mine have in the previous. I as quickly as had a ninety two' legacy with 320K miles on it
