yet another minimum wage question...?

i am working technically "under the table" and am receiving $6.90/hr at a local chinese take-out restaurant doing lots of work for not even minimum wage. minimum wage was at $7.50/hr when i was just employed on 10-10-07 but i just needed a job. now the minimum wage is up to $8.00/hr and i'm not receiving that. what should i do?
should i ask for minimum wage?
should i ask for compensation for the time i was employed at under minimum wage?
how should i ask so i don't lose my job?
p.s. the only tips i receive are the ones handed directly to me, which are few because there is a tip jar on the counter for all the chinese chefs...

i received a w-something saying they took off taxes but i'd rather be paying legit taxes and getting most of it back cause i'm a student anyways.

Well, if you are working "under the table" then you are basically forgoing any of your right to ask for minimun wage. Afterwall, the place probably pays you in cash and doesn't take off for tax. So technically you probably end up making the same amount of money people with minmun wage make minus tax. I work at a place getting 8.50 per hour, cash, no benefits, but no tax. I'm only 18.

working "under the table" is not beneficial to you. You need to be paying into the system so that you can reap the benefits of social securtiy et al. If you are making $6.90 under the table and pay taxes on $8, your pay will probably be about the same, but depending on your income, you will get the monies you pay to the government/state back with your tax returns. I think you might be taken advantage of. You need to protect yourself.
