Question for those who use craigslist to search for jobs?

Do I post my resume on the site? Is it safe? Phone? Email?

Can you give me an example of how you would do it?

I actually got great results, but yes, as others have stated, make sure you're not using an email address not limited to Craig's List responses (setup one that you ONLY use for jobhunting via Craig's List so you can track how effective things are) and also don't list your phone, if you're that concerned.

Craig's List offers an anonymous email response forwarder: that's a good way to do it, combined with obfuscating your email address on the resume itself that you *should* post on there: I suspect that the biggest problem others have run into is web bots/spammers crawling the job listings and picking up simple email addresses that are correct. Do something like "my email address at xxx dot com" and instruct them to remove certain characters, and use the anonymous reply function: that will weed out all or most of those that aren't serious, and combined with using the anonymous reply email address, requires people actually interested in your resume to do it manually.

The amount of scammers/bad leads may vary greatly depending on the field you're in: being in the software field like I am, it appears there's more than enough good valid searchers (recruiters and direct companies) that it's more than worth the effort. In late March/early April of this last year, and previously in 2006 when I posted my resume on Craig's List, the biggest issue I had was not being able to get away from the phone very long before I got viable potential job interview leads :) (I didn't have time to actually search out for things myself, I was so busy, between that and dice.com: I had people calling me in only hours after posting, often early in the morning after posting late at night). Granted, I'm also in the Seattle area, so I'm in a huge market for my field; your mileage may vary.

By following what I've stated above, I've gotten nothing that wasn't job-related, though there were a few that were the lousy recruiters that sent me stuff even though my experience clearly wasn't remotely a good fit.

Here's the thing to keep in mind when it comes to posting on Craig's List that others posting before me don't seem to realize: if a legitimate employer seeking someone contacts *you* that means they're serious and they at least want to talk to you, and that is far more valuable use of your time than blindly posting resumes to whomever, when you don't know the amount of competition, etc. and you're clearly in the seat of power. Don't underestimate the value of that!

Source(s): I've used Craig's List twice in recent history with great results (past two jobs were directly a result of posting there)

When I posted my resume on Craigslist, 95% of the response was from scammers. Craigslist has a lot of crazies on it. It's still a great website.

It's okay to post your email, but I wouldn't post my phone number. (You could also set up a seperate email account just to be used for your resume on Craigslist.)

    Good luck.

I wouldn't post your resume but I'd look at the jobs that are listed on craigslist and respond to those that seem legitimate with your resume (or whatever information they ask for). But be careful cause there are a lot of scammers on there.

    good luck!

No I would not post a resume. All you will get is online scam offers.

Reply to jobs that are listed. And always be careful of giving phone number out. Email first and ask for their phone number ,

Never give out your information until you are sure it is a legit offer and company.
