There are still over a million users on Webtv / MSNTV according to a recent job posting for an MSNTV researcher. Microsoft rebranded Webtv to MSNTV after buying it in 1997.

The original WebTV / MSNTV is an improved mature product, if your dying computer is on old fashioned dialup, WebTV will meet your requirements.

There is a new box called MSNTV2. MSNTV2 has the latest technology designed primarily for broadband and a home network. MSNTV2 is still evolving, not yet stable like WebTV. If your dying computer is on broadband, MSNTV2 might meet your needs.

There are no “Stores” that sell WebTV plus receivers. You may find MSNTV2 - at Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, and of course Amazon.

You will find used WebTV receivers on eBay. I always preferred the Sony version.

Surfing the web on my 65” HDTV is a blast with MSNTV2 connected to cable broadband and my home network.

WebTV is still a great way to email friends and family without the hassles and expense of a computer or high speed Internet for a high tech home theater.

Like you - I used to have one - but now have a computer. A friend of mine has the new Webtv and really likes it. However, you have buy time to run it from Microsoft and that is in the area of $25.00 a month! Expensive for what you get!

    Just my opinion! CJ

Yes, I have webtv...though still connected, I cancelled my monthly membership, but keep it as a backup to my PC if it fails.

I had the Classic version and found it wonderful and with exception of windows office stuff I could do everything else I needed to do. Frankly, I preferred their email system...RARELY got spam! and no ads either.

The newest version allows access to new stuff, yet has done away with some other features...best to go online and type in MSNTV [its new TV] and check it out...It is more expensive now than the older models...about $199 and monthly service is $24.95

No I don't but have started to look into it. My nephew helps me with most of these things as it is so much a part of their lives.

If I do find anything of interest I will post a question though for clarification and opinion.

I have it and it really does help your computer. Also have McAFFE which is a system that protects your computer.
