I rent my parents fomer home in a really nice upscale area... GREAT school system (3rd in the nation) close to shopping etc...

We live in a 3 bdrm 1 1/2 bath ranch with an attached garage and partially finished basement....

It's an older home in an older development...We pay $650 a month plus utilities and we do ALL the yard maintance....

If they were renting it non-family they could get $1000-$1,200 a month + utilites... possibly more.

For an apt. it would be about $1000

    We live in Northeast Ohio

For apartments it's usually like $2,000 through $3,500 unless you move in to some ugly ghetto ones...

Like the ones down my street where people use blankets as curtains and you hear gunshots every night.

My aunts and one of my uncles live in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment and they pay $2,500 a month and the area is okay but they don't have tennis courts or basketball courts or anything just a simming pool.

I'm not sure about renting houses though...

The house I live in is $500,000 and it's not even that nice, if you drive out for like 45 minutes there are nice house for like $300,000 dollars and they're way better than mine and cheaper. But that's because I live closer to Los Angeles and they're in the middle of nowhere and they have to come over here to go shopping and stuff.

i live in greater london, UK (this is the outskirts of london so a bit cheaper)

a 3 bed, 2 bath house round here is going to be around £1500 to £2000 per month, so thats nearly $3000 to $4000

my 2 bed, 1 bathroom apartment is £850 + £100 council tax so not far from $2000

average rental house price for 2-3 bedrooms around here is 1800 & up and appartments are 1000 & up..

we don't live in no fancy area, that is just the cost of living around here and these average prices are for places that are not that nice at that!!

we have DC nearby, military bases, and so forth which has skyrocketed rental prices.. It is cheaper to buy a house nowadays than to rent but I'd rather waste my money renting than buy a 300,000 + priced townhouse or 400,000 + house that you would pay probably 100,000 or less for out of state..

And they wonder why the economy is becomming so bad!! All our money is going to the overpriced needed living expense nowadays..

Boston $1800-$2500 The cost of living is very expensive. The waiting list for section 8 or HUD is about 7 years if you are lucky. If you are in a shelter and need emergency housing you can get it in 1-3 years.
