How many people signed the Declaration of Independence?

I've read two different things--one source said 55, and another said 57. Which one is right?

    Dear,

    This is a very simple Maths. Addition of 1 + 55 = 56.

On the July 4, 1776, John Hancock, as the elected President of the Congress. The only person signed. 1 signature.

On the Aug. 2, 1776 all 55 members of the Congress signed.

    55 signatures

    Therefore: 1 + 55 = 56.

The Number of Signatures signed the declaration of Independence of the United States of America for (13 States) are 56 peoples.

    The Answer is 56.

    (55 or 57 is wrong)

    Wikipedia.

Signatures on United States of America's Proclamation of Independence on every 04Th July.
