Lard Oil for machining?
What is a suitable alternative to use instead of lard oil in a model workshop?

Lard oil may be used in a machine shop for either of these reasons:
1) Because it is a trend to use organic rather than synthetic oils (in general).
2) It is said to prevent galling of aluminium.
For your application, light machine oil (commonly known as "sewing machine oil") will probably do.
I have no alternative for 2) other than surface treatment of the workpiece.

I do a lot of small scale machining on aluminum, brass, and mild steel. I have a lathe and mill and find that a small squirt at the start of a cut works better than anything I've found yet.
Not very organic though!
