  • Air Conditioner Capacitor Cost?

During routine seasonal service of a single family residential air conditioning system, the technician replaced the dual run capacitor (45x7.4 440v) and charged me $232 for the part, over and above the cost of the service visit. Also charged $75 for one lb of freon. He had all the materials on his truck. Is this a reasonable price?

  • Cable Remotes Lose coding?

I have two AT&T Uverse remotes, one for the living room Sharpe and one for the master bedroom Sanyo. Twice in the past month both remotes have simultaneously lost their TV programming. I have the codes for my sets and I know how to reprogram so you can skip that part.

What could be effecting both of them at the same time? This is my second try for an answer.

  • TV Remotes Lose programming?

We have a two AT&T Uverse Tv remotes, one for the Sharpe TV in the living room and another for the Sanyo in the master bedroom.

From time to time both remotes simultaneously lose their TV programming. The latest was today. I know how to reprogram them but I want to know how or why this happens to both remotes at the same time. They're in separate rooms.

  • Is this learned behavior?

I was doing a job laying concrete patio tiles. Some of the patio edges were irregular and tiles had to be cut to fit. I would measure a tile, cut it and hand it to one of the helpers to put in its place. I noticed that some of the helpers stood over the opening, trying the tile in all sorts of orientations, even upside down, before finding the correct position, while other helpers were able to get it right the first time.

This is some sort of spacial recognition thing, like putting certain pegs in the correct holes.. My wife says its learned behavior. I wonder if it might be an ability some are born with. Is it related to intelligence? Education? None of the helpers had much school and what they did have didn't take hold much.

  • Where's the Command Prompt?

I recently re loaded a Windows XP Media Center Edition (which i had lying around) because of a BSOD attack. I have a hp Pavilion laptop. Now I can't find the Command Prompt. I need to work in directly in DOS but can't get there from here. I think DOS is in there somewhere because I see XP is using DOS stuff like defrag and other disk mangement routines. Any ideas.

  • Help indentifying rock specimen?

I obtained this rock from a landscaper in North Texas some years ago and would like to know what it is and where it comes from.

It's about 14" long, very dense, no visible grain, smooth (almost slippery) to the touch, light tan or bone colored, and is entire - that is, it's not a piece broken off of something larger. It is heavily pocketed as though there were inclusions that have been dissolved or eroded away.

I hope this link will get you to a photo. First time I've used photobucket. If that doesn't work, I can email it to you.

This is my second attempt here but first try with a photo. Thanks to those who answered the last time.

  • Question about mixing Parakeets?

We have two parakeets, one young male and one older female (who is also the boss of the cage). We want to get another and not sure if it should be male or female. The cage is 12x12x24 which we think is not too small for three birds. Any advice?

  • Need Help from a Geologist?

I obtained an unusual rock from a landscaper here in Texas and neglected to inqiure at the time regarding its origin. Now I am curious about the type of rock, where it might have come from, and possibly get others like it. I thought it would make an unusual Bonsai assembly.

It's irregularly shaped, about 14" long and 7" high and wide. It is light tan, smooth to the touch, the feel and texture reminding me of talc, and heavily fissured with numerous pockets that look like something was embedded and later dissolved.

I have a photo but no way to post it here. If you would email me I can send it. briggs451@yahoo.com

  • Why is this category called Science "and" Mathematics?

Is mathematics not a science, or is science not mathematical? I have degrees in physics and mathematics and thought they both were sciences.

  • Mechanical animation software?

I'm looking for an inexpensive (or free) software that will let me draw fairly simple 2 D machines and animate their movement. I've tried Dogwaffle and Drawplus but find that they don't have some simple drawing features like erase and outline.

If you have or know of anything like this please let me know about it.

  • Bolt Code Letters?

Does anyone know the meaning of codes BLP, BGT, BJR, etc., on the heads of bolts. There are numerous letter sets like these, but the bolt heads all look alike. They are hex heads about 1-1/4" across, the code letters are raised. I can only see the heads, so they also could be lag screws. They are in a building here, used to fasten cladding.
