How should this scripture be understood?

Revelations 18-19 read:

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall aadd unto these things, God shall add unto him the bplagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the abook of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Isn't it more logical to think that John was only speaking about the book of Revelation since it would be 200 more years before the Holy Bible is assembled. He was likely unaware of other books included in the Bible. For example there are numerous epistles of Paul that were written after Revelations.

I often hear that this scripture applies to the Bible as a whole. If I were to believe that then I must omit 2-3 of the pauline epistles. What is the proper understanding of the scripture?

I believe it is referring to Rev. rather than the Bible as a whole. You are correct.

I have never heard that any Pauline epistles were written after Revelation. Everything I have read tells me that Revelation was written in about 90 AD, which is after Paul was beheaded in Rome.

I'd also like to address what someone else said about Revelation being symbolic. I have to disagree with this. Every prophecy that has come true in the Bible has come true literally. When God said that Assyria would conquer Israel and then Babylon would conquer Judea and then Persia would conquer Babylon, etc. It all came true literally. The exact places that the prophets mentioned. There is no reason to expect that any prophecy that has yet to be fulfilled (i.e. the end times prophecy) will be anything other than literally fulfilled.

This is part of the other 65 books so we read it would it not mean the whole Bible? For the book or Revelation is built upon the visions he saw, which refer to the whole Bible and not Revelation.

Just as you understand it now. It is referring to the Book of Revelation only. All though changing any of the rest of the Bible, would in my estimation, get you punished by God, as He does not like it when people play around with His word. He speaks only the truth, and when we play with it, that makes Him a liar, and that makes Him very mad at us, and we do not need any of that.

Hebrews thru Revelation is written TO and ABOUT the Nation Israel in "ages to COME" Eph 2:7

    Times PAST= Exodus thru Acts

    But NOW= Romans thru Philemon

Ages to Come= Hebrews to Revelation

We are presently enjoying the BUT NOW of Gods plan for the ages.

Times PAST and Ages to Come have to do with Gods exclusive plan for the Nation of Israel.

The Pauline epistles are Gods instructions to we who are the church the body of Christ TODAY. Israels program was INTERUPTED by the "preaching of Jesus Christ ACCORDING to the REVELATION of the MYSTERY which was Kept SECRET from the beginning of th world.." Romans 16:25

    I hope this helps.

I feel that you are probably correct that it only refers to The Prophesy of John in Revelatations... No one alive today, or for many centuries for that matter, has any knowledge of the exact wording of the original documents. Copies of which which were translated into what is called The Christian Bible...The "originals", as given by God to the original scribes, were lost long ago. There is no inerrant text of The Bible existant today.... The Bible of The True Christian Faith does not prove The Faith... nor does it prove God.... but God will prove The Bible to all who come to it open to the leading of God through The Holy Spirit. Only those open to the leading of God will find what God has for them in what has been preserved, by God, of His Word.

A very complicated subject...unless one is of The Church there is no chance of understanding.... The Bible is not intended for those not of The Chruch... or those not open to God's leading...whether conciously or not.

The words of Paul are actually the words of Jesus. Whoever rejects those words spoken through Paul, is rejecting those words of Jesus Himself.

There are other places in the Bible that it says not to add or delete from His Holy Word.

Please everyone, don't take Revelation literally. It is symbolic book written in a style popular at the time. You can find the same things in the latter part of Daniel. It was book of hope for the end of the first century.
