Why play in Arizona? Superbowl Location?

If the team from Massachusettes is playing the team from New York and both of these teams are located in the North East. Why would you have them play in South West corner of the country?

Update:

If it is scheduled more than a year in advance; would it not make make more sense to have stadium owners or their municipalities bid in something like a sealed auction for the opportunity to host the most popular games like a the Superbowl, Rosebowl, and the other special games they have dreamed up?

the NFL chooses the best place to have the superbowl every year usually 2 years before the season starts

they choose places with a very good stadium.... usually the new high tech ones

and a place with good weather like in the south

Besides the obvious reason about playing in good weather locations, they have played in Minneapolis and Detroit (domes) but that won't happen again. The main reason is the money $$$$$$$$. If the game was in a cold weather city, most of the fans wouldn't show up until the Friday before the game and leave on the Monday afetr it. Having it in a warm weather city will hopefully get the fans there for the full week before the game spending $$$$$ in that city.

Arizona was chosen in 2006 as the SuperBowl site for 2008. The new stadium corresponded with the decision to hold it here.

I currently live in Arizona, but from NJ originally. Giants play in NEW JERSEY, in East Rutherford/The Meadowlands-Giant Stadium (where Jimmy Hoffa is supposedly burried under!!! lol!). So we are definately rooting for the Giants in my home!

Super Bowl sites are picked a few years in advance, so there is no way of knowing what teams are going to play in any particular year.

Phoenix was picked because it's a brand new, technologically innovative stadium, and the NFL wants to promote it.

Because this is the location that was selected. Also, I live in Arizona, and it's awesome. The only state I'd rather live in would be California, and I did live there for most of my life.
